Howdy Shana,

> Chris and Butch - thank you both for your explanations.

Welcome you are fer'shur. :-)

> I'm horrified just thinking what far-reaching effects neat

> application can have.

There are folks on this News Group who can tell some tales of them

having become sensitized to this or that EO or chemical.

> It never occured to me to be concerned with the 'massuese' who is

> exposing herself to these chemical components repeatedly, versus

> the victim who is exposed perhaps only once.

Some of those mentioned above were into therapeutic massage .. and

one was a hair dresser.

> Looks like I'm going to be having a likely not-so-friendly

> discussion in the next couple of days. <sigh>

Don't be surprised if they try to shoot the messenger. We can lead

folks to knowledge but we can't make'em think. ;-)

> I'm printing out everything in the hopes that I can help the 'new

> girl' understand just what she is doing.

Let her read what I and others have written .. then step back and

know that you have done all you can do.

> Anyone ever have a good result from talking to these people? I

> can't imagine so. :(

For a long time we had a policy that was followed on this group ..

any posts concerning Young Living were preceded with YL: and those

concerning Gary Young with GY: In the list archive you will find

MANY posts that indicate some folks had success .. and otherwise.

And there are MANY ex-YL'ers and YL Practitioners who have written

about why they stopped being YL'ers and stopped unsafe use of EO.

> And Butch... I could read your writing for hours, lol. You are such

> a master with words, it's just a pleasure to pour over them. :-)

Thank you ma'am .. appreciated are your kind words. Truth is, I am

not known for brevity but that is because I hate having to repeat

myself due to not being clear the first time around. Having spent

half my life in the military I learned that it was wise to try to

second guess readers/listeners and answer questions they had not yet

asked or even thought of .. and try to " preempt " disagreement because

it often unnecessarily distracts attention from the message they

should be paying attention to.

For many years I told folks I was a kuntry boy trying to get along in

the big city but now I am a kuntry boy doing fine in the kuntry .. as

of last summer it was off with the Harris Tweed and Silk Ties and on

with the Baseball Caps, Klod Hopper Boots and Bib Overalls. Now,

instead of hitting the bright lights and fancy folks places nights I

sit outside at our Homestead and have a few cool ones while my Feral

Dawg and Viscous Kat (both sweet critters) are laying or playing

nearby when they are not chasing other critters .. and I'm wondering

why I didn't do this many years ago. Then I say to myself, " Self:

If you had come back many years ago you wouldn't have the family you

have now. ;-)

What I'm saying Y'all .. is that life now is better than it ever was

and its so good that I am having a hard time caring as much about

this industry as I used to .. I still run my company selling tested

oils, etc., in Maryland .. I'm just running it from Tennessee instead

of from Turkey .. but I'm not as involved with writing on News Groups

as I used to be.

There will be a time when the old timers like me and others decide to

fade .. then the younger folks will start to become the old timers,

and Good Lawd Willing they will not have to reinvent too many wheels

because the base of knowledge (or educated opinions) that have been

posted on this group are in the archive as well as in the Noggins of

those who will continue on after we decide to go fishing or spend

more time in our gardens.

Listen to those knowledgeable people and ask them questions .. and

challenge them if you will .. likely it is they will be able to

clarify points when challenged .. but it would be wise to check the

group archive before you ask a question .. then you will be able to

ask a more informed question and the folks that answer will not have

to take it from Ground Zero when they rely. ;-)

> Thanks again!

Welcome you are fer'shur.

> Shana

Y'all keep smiling. :-)

Many thanks, as ever, to List-Mom Chris who lets me post on this subject once in

a rare blue moon even tho I am not officially a list member. :-) The truth is,

every now and then I read Graham's emails from this list. Because I continue

to miss you all terribly - AT people are some of the best fun you can have

without getting arrested. I see this subject come up and have to throw in .02

about my experiences - which are the entire reason why I am no longer active in

the AT world. Anyone here who knows me from before (I was going to say BS -

Before Sensitization) knows what a foaming-at-the-mouth zealot I always was

about proper dilution rates. I always erred on the side of caution, always.

Martin's Plant Aromatics was my bible.

Even so, after about 4 or 5 years of using AT in my skin-care practice, and 3

years of making our own AT products, I became sensitized. Whopping big

sensitized. I now have asthma, and allergies to just about every danged thing

you can think of. I have heard it argued by those for whom 'If it's natural, it

must be good' is a mantra that I must have been pre-disposed to such conditions,

and maybe I was - or maybe I wasn't. The thing is, you don't know that until

after it is already too late. And it is life-changing. I always tell people to

think of Russian roulette - some people become sensitized after being exposed to

50 gallons of EOs, some people after only 50 gtts. You won't know if you are

the 50 gallon or the 50 gtt person until after it has happened. And then it is

too darned late.

EOs are wonderful, powerful things, and they must be treated with the utmost

respect, both for the health of those you work on, and for your own well-being.

Not feared, but deeply and profoundly respected. I won't go into blow-by-blow

detail but we had to close our shop and I had to give up a sucessful career of

over 20 years. I've made my peace with the changes and moved on, but the

effects of sensitization on my health and on our finances has been enormous.

Absolutely enormous.

Just some words of caution...

Great reminder. I have gone to using rubber gloves. I can get those at the

hospital and I use the one mil pipettes. They are easier to use with less

spillage and you have more control over the drops....

I'd be sunk if I became sensitive to this.

Our library has a silent auction coming up this Saturday,

and on the table with Gift Certificates I noticed TWO

for Raindrop Therapy.

Thanks to Butch and y'all, and some folks who used to

be with YL and quit in disgust, I have become a one-woman

anti-YL crusader in my area.

Alas, there are a lot of enthousiastic supporters.

Contrary to many of you, I am MLM-friendly and

dabble in it myself, so that is not why. I just cannot

stand the basic dishonesty of the man. Someome

going around calling himself a naturopath when he

has no training, that's it, I am out of there.

Anyway, I did alert the librarian to the fact

that the infamous " desk reference " is a piece

of YL propaganda, and she removed it from the

shelf.

Thanks for all the education!
