Guest guest
I am new to this group and new to essential oils also. I have been lurking around, gaining knowledge by reading the posts. I would like some help with quitting smoking. I have set my " stop " date as September 1. I have been trying to cut back gradually and things like that but do you all have any good suggestions as far as EO go? I would need for you to be pretty specific in your instructions since I am very new to this. Thanks, Sara
Guest guest
Hi Sara, Welcome aboard! I don't have an AT suggestion for you, but I know someone who years ago successfully kicked their habit by chewing on licorice roots. That's all he did, every time he wanted a stogie, he chewed on a licorice root instead. I'm sure you'll get many other great ideas here. Good luck! Its a hard habit to kick!!! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , " sjohns26 " <sjanejohnson wrote: > > I am new to this group and new to essential oils also. Guest guest
This is not oils or herbs, but after many, many attempts to quit, the book: The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr finally did it for me. Easy too! The book is $14.95 at your nearest bookstore. You continue to smoke while you read the book, and by the time you reach the end of the book you can scarcely wait to quit. It works that well. No patches ($$$), no gum, no substitutes at all. The book isn't a rip snorting good time read, but neither is it a scary book telling you horrible things you're doing to your body. He assumes you already know all that :-) Some people need to read it a second time, but most of the people I know who used it only needed to read it once. Black Pepper essential oil is said to help with urges, but I don't know how to apply it in this case - diffusion? Maybe someone else will queue in. Good Luck, and don't give up > *Smile* > Chris (list mom) > http://www.alittleolfactory.com > > , " sjohns26 " <sjanejohnson > wrote: > > > > I am new to this group and new to essential oils also. I've enjoyed reading all the posts and look forward to it everyday. As far as smoking, I quit one year ago. It was the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. It took me awhile to get over them since I have smoked for more years than I like to admit but now I don't miss it one bit. I had great success with chewing cinnamon sticks whenever I had the urge to smoke. Tastes good too. I also took lots of deep breaths and walked. Good luck to you - you will not be sorry, I promise you. Mary

Jeanne Rose has published showing that inhaling black pepper essential oil can help, and I've seen case studies showing that angelica root oil, by inhalation, can help. The effects of the two oils are quite different.. as I recall (and could be wrong!) Jeanne indicated that it was thought the black pepper, on inhalation, tends to 'scratch' the back of the throat the way cigarette smoke does...similar sensation. (be aware that black pepper will dilate the capillaries...warm your hands and feet and may cause your face to flush... I'm told that will slightly lower blood pressure...) I think the angelica root works by 'shutting down' emotions... one of the things that smoking tobacco also does... helps people 'not to feel' so the emotional effect would be the same. best way to do either would be to pick up a couple of inhaler blanks... add one essential oil to each. (they are like the old fashioned Vicks inhalers...plastic.) also, the inhalers are normally used to inhale nasally... but a smoker seems to me would inhale thru their mouth. similar but different product... there's a company called " smokescents " that produces an inhaler designed for smokers to use in a nonsmoking environment... on a long flight, etc... http://www.smokescents.com/ interesting product... based on Tobacco absolute, with Neroli, I forget which other oils. Seems to me that might also help, but I don't know. AND... there's a 12 step program called Smoker's Anonymous. You might contact them. hope some of this helps. Guest guest
The ubiquitous herb Plantain is supposed to be helpful. There was even a plantain-based commercial remedy called " cig-no " , if memory serves me. I was going to google a link for this, but never got around to it, and have hardly any puter time right now, so do your own Google....
