Guest guest
Hi Kimmy, This brings up something I keep meaning to ask. There are two kind of > Plumaria right? One that seems to be more common is the one I like the > least. Can anyone tell me the two kinds? > There are 7 or 8 species of Plumeria .. all native to Mexico, Central America, India and probably a few other locations .. Hawaii is filled with Plumeria .. I lived there 3 years and I expect from your e-mail address that you either live there now or have lived there. I brought back a Plumeria cutting with wax on both ends .. called a Magic Stick in Hawaii. My mother planted it and kept it for years .. she would bring it inside in cold weather. I think the two types you are asking about are Plumeria alba and Plumeria rubra .. and I think the one most common in Hawaii is the P. alba. Actually .. the genus is Plumeria but the name of the oil is Frangipani .. it comes from an old Italian noble family who invented a Plumeria perfume. Most of the Frangipani Absolute we find now is said to be Origin France .. but my guess is that the French purchase the Concrete and process it into an Absolute .. they do this for Concretes from many areas. For example, my Vanilla Absolute was grown in Madagascar but produced in France. My opinion is that like some other exotic Absolutes .. Gardenia comes to mind, odds are better of finding a phony Frangipani or a low quality Frangipani than they are of finding one that is high in quality. I expect that the perfumers on the list will have more information on this. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
