Other than adding nutrient to your body if you take it, I've seen it listed in

many natural shampoos......so I'm guessing the nutrients in the plant , perhaps

a protein or such, it is soothing . One shampoo used to use Yucca and Nettles, I

know that nettles can help with dandruff and the 'feel' of hair in a shampoo,

cleanse the scalp while feeding the skin..I'll have to drag out my old book of

herbs .......many people will also use spirolina, high in protein, and I've seen

that in both consumable and applicable delivery systems.

I literally have dozens of notebooks hand written along with a few great herbal

books to include cautions and interactions.....and recipes. They may still be

packed. If not, I'll send you a few, if they are packed, I can't reach them.

Ah here we go......Nettle Rinse and conditioner: " Nettle is an excellent hair

conditioner. It is an acidic plant and promotes healthy gloss. It also has a

reputation for arresting hair loss. Use as a final rinse after washing your

hair, or massage into the scalp and comb thru the hair every other day.. Keep in

small bottles in the refrigerator. "

The recipe is rather vague.....'wear rubber gloves to cut the nettles, wash the

nettles thoroughly , use a large handful/bunch of nettles in an enamel or glass

pot, add just enough cool water to cover the nettles, bring to boil, simmer 15

mins. Strain , put liquid into a jug to cool.  I'm guessing this is not long

lasting so one would have to use this up within a two to three days max.

There is 'formic acid, histamine, acetylcholine,5-hydroxytryptamine,

gluconquinones,chlorophyll, minerals which include iron,silica,

potassium,manganese,sulphur, vitamins A and C.

The silica is also in horsetail, great for bones and hair strength, I'm working

on a horsetail blend that I can put in my shampoos along with yucca and B

vitamins. I also use silk so that shampoo also doubles as a showergel and I love

it. No more additives than that so its simple, few ingredients and non

detergent.

You can also eat nettles like spinach, you do have to cook them. You may have

nettle tea.  They think as a tea it is a tonic and helps to rid the body of uric

acid and used it in the past for arthritis and gout. It is also found in some

teas to help breast feeding moms produce more milk and it also says its good for

excema, not in what form however.

This information is found in  two sources, Prescription For Nutritional healing,

and The New Age Herbalist, consulting editor is Richard Mabley, with Michael

McIntyre, Pamela Michael, Gail Duff, John Stevens for the New Age Herbalist.

Publisher is Simon and Shuster. Inc. and in the back there is a very large

reference and bibliograpy to further your research.

This book literally will tell you when to harvest, how to harvest, how its

beneficial, what it's cautions are if any, the active properties and its a shame

that some people haven't purchased this because of the stereotype 'New

Age'.....its not a metaphysical book.

'Back to Eden' the original version imho is the better book to own, the newer

one left out several herbs, and probably rightfully so, we don't want people

just selling lobelia. You must know how to use it.

Then the 'Encylopedia of Medicinal Plants' is another and then a few MD.s have

some books out as well. I think its important to go to as many sources as you

can because then you can see how that pendulum swings in use, opinion etc.  So

far, the general concensus of Nettles is pretty much the same and that is coming

from about 6-7 sources.

Hope that helps.
