We believe strongly in natural products .. sometimes we want to believe more than we should. I've not taken an over the counter medication (except for aspirin and antacids) or a prescription medication (except for one 5-6 day period) since 1995, and sometimes I catch myself thinking that all can be fixed with a natural product .. but logically, I am not willing to take that position if the one who is sick is one of my loved ones. So all is well .. and you keep smiling. :-) Butch ... http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/> > > > --- Pada Sel, 9/9/08, Butch Owen <butchowen<butchowen%40gmail.com>> > menulis: > > Speaking for myself only .. Guest guest
I have a few AT books I like around so I can refer to the info regarding the scent and blending and such. I don't really pay much attention to the remedies and I do have Plant Aromatics which I love. However, in defense of the Julia Lawless book she does have a warning under toothache/abscesses that they can be dangerous and cause infection that could enter the blood stream so seek medical advice immediately. But as usual, Butch gives sound advice without making anyone feel bad about what they've posted. Thanks Butch! Butch and I have been wranglin about stuff for years.....Hiya Butch..... Most of the time about whose sippin Bourbon is better...<G>.... In this case he's spot on... I have the Lawless Encyclopedia of Essential Oils....... When Lawless states that such and such an EO is disinfectant, she's correct..... Essential oils, as a rule, *are* disinfectants. That's what got the who ball rolling for AT. Gattefosse was using some of the EOs as disinfectants, and he noticed that the healing process in those uses, was faster than with the standard disinfectant.... He's the guy that coined the term Aromatherapie...... Where Lawless and so many others foul up, is the specific applications they attribute to EOs......drawn on the herbal tradition of the botanical... While that can be the case, in many cases it is not....That's because the process of production of an EO involves distillation... Distillation seprates and concentrates things...If the active principle of an herbal botanical is not separated out by distillation, the EO is not gonna act in the same way... Further...distillation can concentrate things that in the herbal natural form are not problematic, to become a concern when concentated hundreds of times...... Wormwood in Absinthe may lead to happy dreams......Wormwood EO will blow your liver and kidneys out.... Yeah....some guy tried that once... So.....as far far as Lawless Encyclopedia, it's a passable ref book....I've had one for 10 years plus.....I also have Sylla's Guide and Martin's Plant Aromatics...Lawless works for general stuff about an EO, and when, for example you want to remember that Spikenard is Nardostachys jatamansi...which would really be a cool name for a archosaur, rather than a plant.... What is really suspect are the AT novels...storybooks...which are often correct on some things, extrapolate so much on others... The other thing to beware of is sales literature, especially from certain MLM's.... Have seen some so bad over the years as to be laughable.....Went to a seminar for one such outfit that I woulda been rolling on the floor with laughter, were it not for the fact the other attendee's were taking it so seriously....Cure cancer....Say goodbye to your physician....that kinda stuff.... -- Gary W.
