Colic... HELP PLEASE

Hi there, I have a two month old son who is suffering from colic. We

have tried everything from changing my diet several times (as I am

nursing him), to Gripe Water, and homeopatic colic remedies, Amthyst

Crystals on his tummy - you name it and still the poor little thing

cries from 7 - 9 pm...every night. He doesn't appear to be in pain, he

is clean and dry, fed, and burped - still he can't settle for anything.

I am curious if anyone here has any suggestions they could offer to

help with his colic symptoms.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tammy

A friend of mine used very gentle circular tummy rub while holding the

baby. She said it didn't work every time, but did seem to help some time.

She said that the baby swing next to the radio playing music helped, too.

From what I've heard, also, colic usually away when a baby becomes three

months old. " It's like magic! " is what this friend said. One day

screaming, the next day no more.

Good luck!

Karen

That's what I was going to suggest. Also holding the baby over your left

arm, with her head up towards your shoulder and legs hanging over the

forearm, that also helps...

Good luck and I sure hope you don't end up with one like mine... at 14,

she's still colicky x 10

Oh man, that part of my firstborn I don't miss......my pediatrician said the

cure for colic was to treat the parents lol.......we did have to go to a med,

last resort, that kid hurt and she hurt for hours....now days they use the gas

drops to see if they might have gas bubbles and you don't want to know what my

grandma used.......I'm of the age some of our moms would rub our gums for

teething with whiskey....( i bet) and cola syrup for colic. Some say peppermint

tea , it seemed to help to lay her on a warm heating pad on my lap so I could

gauge the temp of the pad.......so, here are some tips for just general babies.

I tried the peppermint, she didn't like it nor did I. But bouncing her a little

on my lap with a warm pad did help in some cases, not all.

in the old days they made an onion syrup or tea.......lots of

sugar......ick......and no, I do not recommend that.

put them in their bassinet and move that next to the dishwasher.....that calmed

my baby. I ran more empty dishwashers than anyone I know and the wasteful water

karma got me for it, i haven't had a dishwasher in years......=(

record yourself vacuming....that back and forth motion , just vacum slowly , the

dishwasher and the vacumn are sounds they know and sort of like those bears they

had with in utero sounds....turn that up just audibly.....if she wont feel

calm,at least your stress level will go down LOL. And I wonder why all of my

girls loved Pink Floyd LOL! They said they don't recall a time they  heard it

for the first time.....of course they didn't, they heard thru my tummy and to

this day, that cd, Dark Side of the Moon, chills them out. They burned their own

cds taking out the alarm clock part.

when you take a toddler out and want to actually eat a meal and not bug other

customers, some of them are escaping their kids......put about a heaping

tablespoon of regular flour and put in on the tray. Those babys will  put their

fingers in it and it fascinates them. That I can vouch for as well.

if they get antsy  while out eating and the flour is not what you want to do, my

doc told me to buy cellophane in colors and cut if about 6 -8 inches square and

they like the crinkle it makes.....mine was really digging that. I showed both

of those tricks to my youngest and she said it worked for Emilee and well too!

I have loads of tips and the great part, you dont have to invest a mint.

Poor baby, and poor mommy too!

" Gripe Water " works best if you're the one taking it, if breastmilk is the

only thing the baby is eating (and it sounds like it is). All gripe water

is is a syrup made from Chamomile, Ginger, Catnip and Fennel. Makes a right

fine tea, which comes through the milk to ease the baby' tummy. Just drink

it about 1/2 hour before feeding.

Most mums prefer the ease of the drops, but they're not nearly as effective

as drinking the tea yourself.

Hope that helps!

Gosh I feel for you. My eldest was in pain. That baby would draw up and scream.

Just the way she cried you could tell......I was in tears when I went to see a

pediatrician and told him I'm not a good mom and I think I broke my baby LOL!

I was also breastfeeding. She had me so full of milk I could have fed a third

world country , she had colic for longer than most and I was exhausted.  They

did have to give her a med, it was obvious she had pain and then I decided to

stop breast feeding danged if she wasn't lactose intolerant....so on to soy and

she still had colic. But she was older than your baby.  Finally I was told 'put

a pinch or two of rice cereal in her bottle' and danged if she didn't settle

down.....I guess she was just hungry but she was a chub, so I know she was

getting plenty of milk.......

That was at 3 months tho. And only once a day and that would be the evening

bottle.

I never thought it was fair for babies to have to go thru that. And thats why

Creator makes em so cute.....so you don't pitch em out of a speeding

car......but I did think I was the cause and I had a great doc for her.

Most babies who have colic, don't have it very long....thats the good news. So

just lamaze yourself thru this time LOL.

ColicCalm was a life-saver for us -- www.coliccalm.com -- and no

preservatives like Gripe Water. My son would be in the middle of an

uncontrollable fit and within minutes, he'd be alseep with the ColicCalm.

Hope this helps!
