Guest guest
After almost a week, our power came on at 11:17pm this evening!! Whoo hooo!! I love camping, but I must say, I'm done camping for a really long time!! With the exception of my truck, we did not have any major damage to our house or workshop. We lost a turbine off the roof and did get some minor leakage. Lots of treetops down. The horses don't know what to make of the back pasture! Luckily, we let them out on our neighbor's land otherwise they could have been injured. Our entire back pasture is just littered with tree tops and a couple pines! Don't know where they came from as most everyone here has had their pine trees logged! As far as the eye can see you cannot see a pine tree, so I don't know where these have come from! Our back horse fence now has a new opening, but we'll have to get a chain saw or four wheeler to get the tree off of it. Other than that, we're going to have a heck of a bonfire at our Halloween party!! Being that we're on well water, we haven't had water or power this past week, so that's been the most fun! But, the weather has been cool and it's been kind of enjoyable waking up early and sitting out on the porch boiling up the water and having some coffee and listening to the radio. When asking my 10 year old daughter what she has learned this past week, she said, that she can go more than 3 days without using the internet, that this is how they lived in the olden days, and that you cannot flush the toilet using bottled water! LOL!! I had to teach her how to pour the water from the pots to make the toilet flush. Pouring water from the little water bottles was just not going to do it!! LOL!! But all is well and good and life is returning to normal!! Nikie Brown <http://www.aftertherayne.com/> 936-203-3188

Guest guest
congrats Niki!!! Chris, I had your birthday on my calendar but - what can I say??? Happy Belated Birthday~~~ We were truly Blessed - we came out with basically no damage - bunches of trees got a crew cut, magnolia tree took out the satellite dish, then the phone went out so we were in limbo for a couple of days - weird. Couldn't even get out because of trees across the drive. Guess a tornado came thru - made the front gate look like someone tried to rip it open like a sardine can. We were told that our power may be restored by Oct 5 - but that is ok, we have a generator & the weather has even cooperated. Starting to warm up today. There are so many that lost everything & they will have to start with a clean slate, then there are those like my son & a friend, Jane whose damage, one way or another may make their home unsafe to stay in but until insurance steps in they are in limbo. My son & d-i-l are going crazy dealing with fema, insurance, etc. My son & his family actually had a room but they were literally kicked out so out of state workers can stay there. I really appreciate the people coming in to help but on the other end (probably because it hits close to home) I don't think it is fair that my son & family, especially since there has been some cardiac/health issues that they are in the process of diagnosing/treating my granddaughter with to be pushed out onto the street. Their home is really unhealthy because of sewage backup/damage that is contaminating some of the rooms & has already affected them with headaches, sickness, etc. Ok, sorry - more than anybody wanted to know *S* Our phone did go out, got it back with at & t bringing in a generator to run the main phone trunk, someone stole it but now they have another generator running so we have phone & internet. Like the ole' days - steal a man's horse you get hung, steal a generator or loot - hang em high *S* Really have no tolerance for looting/stealing as you can probably tell. God Bless You & Yours, Georgia (hahagranny) ~~~God's answers are wiser than our Prayers~~~ ~~~Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away~~~ ~~~Life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain~~~ **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges?
