Any odor that you particularly like has the potential to " pick you up " .. from strictly a psychological or emotional point of view. But if it has properties that are also physiological then it will do its thing whether you like it or not .. i.e., Oregano .. the Carvacrol will kick big bad bug butts even if you have no sense of smell. Lavandula angustifolia will have a calming effect on most folks .. and it will IMMEDIATELY stop the pain and cause more rapid healing if applied to a burn .. these are physiological actions. Lavandula stoechas will excite some folks and calm others. Rosemary, Cineole will " pick up " most folks ... its not something one should sniff at night unless they want to stay up and read a boring book. Alexander's birth was a natural one .. Tanya had a vial of Turkish Rose Otto (Rosa damascena) in her hand and I was passing a vial of Lavandula angustifolia under her nose .. all went easy and well. This was certainly a physiological action and there was also a certain amount of psychological and emotional action involved because she liked both and believed in them. AT is mainly about chemistry but there is a good bit of psychology involved ... and there is often much overlap in these categories of theapeutic benefits. Some folks will not get the same emotional benefits from the same oils .. but generally they will get the same psychological benefits IF that oil has that particular therapeutic capability .. and all people will almost always get results from an oil that has proven physiological benefits. I say " almost always " because there are some valid scientific exceptions .. but they are not common enough to teach them as rules. There is far more science to AT than there is mystery or spiritual hocus pocus .. but its easier for folks to market products using mysterious hocus pocus than it is for them to learn the true facts That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. ;-) > -- > Gary W.
