Guest guest
Howdy y'all, November 2008 has been a historic month for America .. the election of the first Black American President and the appointment of the first Female 4 Star General Officer. There is a great difference in the paths these people had to tread to attain their positions .. politicians sometimes move rapidly through the system while the road to 4 Stars is always a long and difficult one .. still, they are both historic achievements and I wish them both great success. ;-) To those few " progressive " foreign politicians who have built careers around hating America .. I am still waiting for another country with a majority White population to elect a Black President .. and for any other country in the world to appoint a Female to the rank of Four Star General. ;-) http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gOVHjD7DCtQVV0A7O5I_ abqTr3owD94ESCQG0 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/nov/14/dunwoody-becomes- first-female-4-star-general/ Trivia: I have long believed that there was more opportunity for equality in the U.S. Armed Forces than in the civilian world .. and that the face of our military more closely resembles the face of our society. As of 31 March 2008, there were 54 Black and 13 Hispanic American Generals and Admirals on active duty. The first Female General Officer was Brigadier General Anna Mae Hays .. U.S. Army, appointed in 1970. The first Black General Officer was Brigadier General Benjamin O. Davis, Sr., U.S. Army .. appointed in 1940. The first Black General Officer in the U.S. Air Force was General Davis' son, Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. .. appointed in 1954. The first Black Admiral in the U.S. Navy was Samuel Lee-Gravely, Jr. .. appointed in 1971. The first Black General Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps was Frank E. Peterson, Jr. .. appointed in 1979. The first Black 4 Star General was Daniel " Chappie " James .. U.S. Air Force .. appointed in 1975. The first Hispanic Admiral was Horacio Rivero .. U.S. Navy .. appointed in 1964. The first Hispanic Four Star General was Richard E. Cavazos, U.S. Army .. appointed in 1982. The first Native American General Officer was Clarence Tinker (Osage), U.S. Army .. appointed in 1940. He was also the first American General Officer killed in WW II .. his plane was shot down while he was leading a force against the Japanese in June 1942. Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, was so named to honor him. The first Native American Female General officer is Rita Aragon (Cherokee Choctaw), U.S. Army .. appointed in 2004. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com
