Guest guest
I feed my 2 rotties and one black and tan coon hound on the raw diet YET the hound still has ear troubles can you tell me MORE about fasting? Leo IN GOD WE TRUST --- On Wed, 12/3/08, Bonnie Neel <flashnsaber wrote: Bonnie Neel <flashnsaber Dog Ear Infection Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 12:23 PM Patty, just happened to catch this email. Ear infections and skin allergies are the first things we see clear up on a raw diet. If your dog is on kibble, that could very well be the problem. Also, if they are over a year old, fasting is very important. My dogs fast 2 days a week and when one of my girls had several ear infections, the first thing my vet (holistic DVM) asked was 'have you started fasting her?' I simply forgot to start her fasting (she was just over a year). That cleared it up and she hasn't had a problem in 2 years. If you really won't consider a raw diet, there is an herbal formula by Ambertech for ears, but if it's the kibble, it will just keep coming back until you fix that. You can find more info on my website, www.kuhlmanhaus. com. Check the 'raw diet and health' page. Used it for years and a holistic physician told me how to use it. - Patricia West Tuesday, December 02, 2008 6:41 PM [oils_herbs_ etc] Dog Ear Infection HI all My dog, Mochi, has had a nasty yeast infection in his ears for over a month now. The vets have tried two different medications (topical) but he still has the problem. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions from a holistic standpoint. We have another appointment tomorrow so if you have any ideas I'll be able to discuss them with the vet tomorrow. Many thanks! Patty

Guest guest
Well, I ran your excellent suggestions by my vet, but unfortunately, she had minimal input because she isn't a holistic vet. She couldn't advise me, for instance, how much tea tree oil would be safe to put in the ears without adding to the inflammation. So we decided to give Big Pharma one more round, with flushing the ears and applying ointment every day for 2 weeks. If that doesn't do it, then she advises I go see a holistic vet in Oakland and we can go that route. She acknowledges that, given Mochi's age ( 12+ years) and no previous history of ear infections, there may be something else going on here. I'm also going to look into supplements for the immune system since it can deteriorate with age. Thanks again for all of your input and help! Guest guest
FYI I often warm OliveOil alone & often with a tiny drop of lavender, tea tree, for my dog's ear mites don't know if this would be of help to you..If your do g has a true infection..I can't help because there is an active infection present which mostly requires antibiotics..however there are herbs on the market for infection Pau'D arco is one of them (sp?) sorry.. I don't know if it's safe for domestic animals.. remember in the ear when a infection is present (it's liquid like water) adding the oil makes to the ear i.e.; the infection rises to the top helping assist it getting out of the ear or creating an evaporation of the liquids..like swimmer's ear if U will... an antibiotic would be needed either way...the oil mostly should comfort the dog's ear.. have a blessed day!
