Hi

I am just getting back into soap making and am trying to decide if I want to do

CP or HP, does anyone have an opinion on which method holds up better, I realize

a lot depends on the choice of oils etc, I am just looking for genral opinions

based on sales, shipping, profit margins etc.

Thanks for your help

Personally I'm a CP fan unless I can't use it for some reason--like

the FO will accelerate the reaction, using CP will let something

overheat or discolor, etc. I have certain colors that won't stay

stable in CP so I HP those too.

I like CP better myself. For some reason it LOOKS creamier. However, most

customers don't know the difference. Cost is about the same, I would

imagine, except on labor time.

Thanks to those who responded, How do you ship, or do you?, especially during

the wamer weather?

I would be concerned about the soap getting soft and losing shape, or is this

just a bad choice of oils on my part?

Thanks again

Hi Lori,

CP is cold process soapmaking, it takes longer for the soap to trace (thicken)

and to cure, usually up to six weeks, I am by no means an expert on cold

process.  HP is hot process soapmaking, usually done in a crockpot where the

oils are heated so that the lye reacts faster and traces almost immediately, I

prefer HP for time contraints but it can be challenging to make a prettier bar.

Also, it takes considerable practice to get a milk soap to stay white.  I am

trying to decide which method I want to invest in, as most of my equipment got

misplaced........ during the separation from my husband a couple of years ago,

and I want to begin selling online.  I don't want my soap to melt if I ship

during hot weather. especially here in texas.
