I'm thinking of cutting out dairy and animal products to see if it helps

keep my arthritis inflammation down. It seems my inflammation has gotten

worse in the past year, after an initial cooling down with herbal

anti-inflammatories. It was so disappointing when they stopped working,

and since I'm the only caregiver for my mother, I'm trying to get in as

best physical shape as possible, but the pain is very limiting. I've

read lots over the years that this eating lifestyle works, but I don't

know anybody personally - or in a group setting - that follows this. I'd

love to hear your stories.

I¹ve been looking into macrobiotics. I¹ve been a vegetarian for 26 years,

but haven¹t been very good at minimizing junk food particularly sweets. I

now have arthritis, joint problems and skin problems. Over the years, I¹ve

tried everything I can think of, including big pharma, herbal remedies,

homeopathics, etc. So my next effort will be macrobiotics. A good

introduction is ³The Hip Chick¹s Guide to Macrobiotics² by Jessica Porter.

It¹s an easy read, but covers al the basics.

The macrobiotics critics say this diet is too restrictive particularly in

protein and some vitamins and minerals. But I¹m thinking I¹ll probably do a

variation to include additional protein from non-dairy, non-meat sources.

The hardest part for me will be the cooking. You have to cook everyday.

I¹m not a cook and have relied on convenience foods, which are processed. I

have high hopes that this way of living will bring me back to a better state

of health.

So would I, this past year I have really been struggling with hip joint pain and

would love some suggestions to help with this. I feel I am much to young to give

in and use big pharma solutions

My doc told me sugars, members of the night shade family in foods, simple carbs

and too much red meat make mine worse.......and I dont eat right so......I can

do something about that. Are you taking an essential fatty acids?  I'm fixing

to.  Giving up salsa and spaghettie sauces are going to be hard........the pasta

I can do without.

I don't do much dairy, but I have a calcium deficiency so that I'll take in a

good supplement and my doc told me if you are low on D, it can make things worse

too. I will eat cheese on nachos. Its a Universal law .....and no cokes , even

the sugar free....

I have not noticed any difference but then again I dont stick with it long

enough to know. I am taking a high B complex with C for stress and a bone

formula with D ......if I were to take anything else, it would be efa's. I've

done the glucosamine, msm, chondroitin and I found one natural supplent than did

help, its by Twin labs...Joint Fuel.  If they have it a walmart get it there, if

you buy it in a healthfood store , prepare to faint......but that worked I just

count NOT afford it. This has a few enzymes to include bromelaine and papaya ,

glucossamine, chondroitin and several other things.....but a small bottle lasted

only 15 days. that may have changed and you need to see if there are

interactions with your meds, but if its more affordable now....I'd try it. With

the diet and I would also (in a perfect world) do a fast each month and yoga or

tai chi

I did go vegan for a while and my lab works came back with not good (but not

scary bad) results. since the Spinach scare I've sort of taken to eating more

fruit and oat meal and I check to see where the fruit is from.....(they can lie

tho).

My goal for pain management for this year is to make enough mondey to buy a wii,

they have tai chi and yoga programs.

Hi Anya

Have you tried taking omega fatty acids (aka fish oil)? The vet prescribed them

to my dog for his arthritis and it seems to have worked wonders. She says it is

a natural anti-inflammatory.

I am not on any diet, but while searching for some natural relief for

my mom's arthritis pain I have read that blackstrap molasses might

help with that. My mom cannot find blackstrap molasses where she

lives, so I cannot confirm that it would really help, but I'd

recommend to google arthritis pain and blackstrap molasses and you'll

find some info on that. Besides blackstrap molasses contains a variety

of minerals, it is high in iron ( for those that need to avoid iron

intake it is not recommended).
