The days when you told troops to do things without explaining why (when you could) had passed even while I was serving .. but the days of demanding honor and integrity have not passed nor do I think they will ever pass. Even today we demand more of our officers and NCOs than we demand of our higher ranking elected officials .. and we darn sure get more from those soldiers. There are valid reasons why all the service academies have not tolerance for lying or cheating .. one violation and you are OUT. Even some select civilian universities have no tolerance for cheating. One can not practice ethics part time .. but unfortunately, we do not demand these standards in the civilian world of business and politics. Politicans who have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar and are even under indictment often run for office again and are elected! This is Banana Republic mentality and it shows that our moral standards have become too low. Civilian authorities are fortunate in that the military CHOOSES to remain subordinate to them .. but I believe that there is a limit to how long that might last. I hope we never see that limit breached but it is not totally beyond logical imagination. Our armed forces still take an oath to support and defend the Constitution and the United States against ALL Enemies .. Foreign and Domestic! > My husband is a viet nam vet tho he didn't not go to nam and > volunteered.......??? he still served and served well in Europe. thus far > the chain of generations of my daughters family goes unbroken when it comes > to service to country. > One does not have to serve in combat to serve their country. General Eisenhower earned 5 stars but he never served in combat. Still, he will go down in history as having been one of the most successful commanders in modern times. > I believe we are honored to have you as a member of our board. I am > humbled thats for sure! > Thank you ma'am .. not sure what to say except I thank you and I have always enjoyed this group. :-) > Evie > Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
