Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, As you and others have probably noticed I am not much of a poster anymore .. it has something to do with a situation of me being between too busy and disaffected. But I must comment on this post. hey. > > I'm still amongst the living. > We can't win them all. ;-) > Thought I would share... rose oil DOES go off. Very sad but true. I > was > making some perfume this evening. I hauled out my bottle of Midas Rose Oil > that I got YEARS ago from Butch. It was a lovely bottle of rose... added it > to my perfume. Tried it on and PEE YEW! > First .. that is a terrible explanation. Go Off? You mean it oxidized. Any oil will oxidize in time .. and the time will be shorter if you don't store it properly. I don't have your old files now because the hard drives I used many years ago back in Turkey aren't compatible with the Vista system I got when I returned to the USA in summer of 2007 .. but best as I can recall that Midas Rose Otto was purchased in the late 1990s or early 2000s .. in a one gram bottle. I still have a couple of 1 gram bottles of 1999 Crop Year Turkish Rose Otto that I would not sell for $50 each .. but they have been stored well and I pull them out from time to time to sniff them .. like when something upsets me. I just pulled one out a minute ago and sniffed it. ;-) > Now I don't claim to have a " nose " . In fact it's a distinctly average > nose > and when I make perfume, I stick to just a few fragrances. I can't be > bothered to waste oils and my time lingering over failures, semi-successes > etc. I took a bottle of Lilac fragrance oil... I'm in love with the scent. > That is the first problem there .. you are now into synthetic scents .. such talk used to be prohibited on this list. ;-) > Added the rose, one drop, and some Sandalwood. Wasted the lilac and the > Sandalwood and the rose... found the concoction to smell betweed rancid and > musty/dusty/moldy. Sniffed the fractionated Coconut... it was fine. Snffed > the Sandalwood, it was bliss and sniffed the Lilac, delightful. Sniffed the > rose and OMG... it STANK. Sighed and threw the whole thing out, bottle and > all. > If you add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of sewerage or a teaspoon of sewerage to a barrel of wine .. you get the same thing .. a barrel of sewerage. In my opinion, that holds true for the use of synthetic fragrance oils as well. > Started again, got a bottle of rose that I got from Janet Golden, also > years > ago, but fortunately not TOO long ago and now have a delightful bottle of > lilac perfume with a rosey glow and a sexy underglow of Sandalwood. I added > more Sandalwood and a couple more drops of Rose to it. > Like you wrote above .. you don't claim to have a nose .. and you should check the dates of oils when you comment on them. The dates of production are clear on mine .. and odds are that any Turkish Rose Otto you received from other sources were also mine at one time and should also be dated. > Howsome ever, It really sunk home that if I didn't want any more of my > rose > going off, I am going to have to use it all up soon. That means I'm going > to > be out of rose before too long... anyone wanna tell me what the price of > rose is these days? I'm afraid to go look. sigh. > If you don't want it to " go off " then stop mixing it with garbage. And .. you can learn for yourself what the price of Rose Otto is this year .. since you are using garbage to make perfumes in the first place I would recommend you NOT spend the money to purchase a quality Turkish or Bulgarian Rosa damascena (Damask Rose) .. you can do better getting some Chinese or some of the stuff from the Balkans that will gag a maggot off a gut wagon. > Anyway, I'm still here. Much to the dismay of some! LOL!! > Like I wrote above .. we can't win them all. ;-) > K > > -- > Kathleen Petrides > Bead Hussy > http://www.BeadHussy.com <http://www.beadhussy.com/> > Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch ... http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
Guest guest
Oh POOH! I kept that bottle in the dark, I suspect the problem was that there was very little left and the oil imploded simply BECAUSE there was so little left. Okay, it OXIDIZED. You yourself started warning me 2 or 3 years ago to start using it or I was going to lose it. Well, I did. Up to a point. Because it was my favorite though, I tried to save some for something special... to ME! I'm not selling my " nose poison " or giving it away. Although I did try it on the boys, they liked it too. ;-) I also suspect the reason that the other bottle was still okay was because it was UNOPENED and SEALED. I am not " now into synthetic scents " . Only one. And that's because I can't GET the real thing. Shoot me because I love the scent of lilacs and have decided that even a fake scent is better than nothing. Maybe I shouldn't suggest that you shoot me though, you're onery enough to DO IT!!! AND it was definately the bottle of rose. Or should I say, it was definately the 4 or 5 drops I had left, cuz I went to the source of each one and put my distinctly average nose in it and sniffed. Even an average nose can smell if something has finally given up the ghost. And Yes, I should have finished off when you warned me to. But I didn't. So instead of getting to enjoy the last of it, I lost it. And that makes me sad. It also shows that I had better start using my other roses or I'm going to lose those too. Now Mr. Grumpus, Go hug the Great One, kiss your beautiful wife and forgive us imperfect people for wanting something they like even if it's FAKE. You can yell at me the day I start saying " genuine lilac " or even start giving it away or Gods Forbid, selling it. And I'm glad to see you even if you're ranting at me.
