Guest guest
Howdy Jan, > Hi Folks~ > > I too am still around. > That I knew and good it is. :-) Me too .. but I'm not sure how much longer I will say that. My feelings toward this business are similar to those expressed in an old cigarette advertisement .. one most folks here probably won't recall. It went, " Are you smoking more and enjoying it less. " ;-) > Yesterday Kathleen I went to check my Rose, Sandalwood and > Helichrysum. All was good however I did decide I need to use > them or lose them. > That sorta holds true for most things .. but not all. I've overused my knees and they are going out on me. I probably gotta get one or both replaced afore next deer season or figger a different way to get up and down outta them deer stands. ;-) I've used my noggin best as I could for a lotta years trying to stay ahead of the bad info in this industry and I guess that has been a good exercise .. but lately I've found that there is as much noggin challenge (and a lot more fun) in trying to outsmart Black Bass in Kentucky Lake, White Tail Deer and Wild Turkeys in the surrounding forests .. and Japanese Beetles in my organic garden .. than there is in the EO business. ;-) As for your Turkish Rose Otto, Mysore Sandalwood and Corsican Helichrysum italicum .. if the bottles have not been opened you still have a ways to go ... and even if the Sandalwood has been opened you will find it improving as time passes. I have seen 20 year old Mysore that I wished was mine. On the Heli .. Corsican is worth roughly 250% of what you paid for it. The price is out of sight now. Over the years, I've written a bit on the normally expected life of this and that oil. Some folks believe me and some believe the EO/AT novels, while others discover universal truths based on their own good or bad experiences ... which does much to promote the bad info in the industry. What I have written has been based on the norm when one knows the true age of the oil when they purchased it and whether or not it was handled and stored properly. Maybe those norms are not normal. ;-) The normally expected life of an EO can carry over to that of some Hydrosols ... sometimes. One should not expect an Oregano Hydrosol to go bad easily but I was once surprised to learn that this can also apply to Rose Hydrosol under certain conditions. Back in Summer of 2000, Chris Ziegler and her girlfriend from NYC visited the Rose Fields in Isparta. Purty girls get the red carpet treatment at Rose Otto stills and while at one of the stills the workers allowed them to stick their heads under the spout on a drum of Rose Hydrosol .. it was a fun time as well as a cooling experience. And ... the ladies wanted to take some with them but the only containers we had were unopened bottles of commercial (Pinar) drinking water .. so we poured out the water and they filled up a few of them. To make a long story shorter .. one of those bottles rolled around in my vehicle's trunk and got behind a spare tire .. and when they returned to the U.S.A. it was left in the car. Being as I did not have a flat after that and being one who does not look at vehicles as anything but practical tools, I had not reason to look behind that spare tire .. and that bottle of Rose Hydrosol remained in that trunk throughout that entire summer .. and the following winter .. and the following summer, and so on. Sometime around late summer of 2002, I was planning a trip to the Med along with a couple of friends and decided I oughta maybe clean out that trunk since we would be loading baggage for three folks. That's when I found that water bottle of Rose Hydrosol .. it had been in there over 2 years. Surprised I was to find that the odor was fantastic .. so rather than dumping it I took it into my apartment. Later that fall (2002) I was going to Eskisehir to the Turkish Aromatic and Medicinal Plant & Drug Research Center and I decided to take that bottle and discuss it with the experts there. They tested the Hydrsosol for contamination .. it was pure .. and they also agreed that the odor had not " gone off " as some say. ;-) Does this mean that we can stash Rose Hydrosol in such a manner for two years and expect it to still be Primo stuff? Nope! It does mean that the Rose Hydrosol that was poured into that bottle had exited that still as a sterile product .. and that the water that had been in that bottle of Pinar Spring Water had been mighty pure because .. just as is the case with the wine & sewerage example I gave in another post .. it takes but a single drop of contaminated water to spoil a barrel of sterile water. That is why I always had my barrels produced new and had my stamp on them .. pouring a sterile Hydrosol into a used barrel is like putting a spoon full of sewerage into a barrel of wine. The point here .. as far as Hydrosols go .. is one I make to all buyers when they ask me how long their Hydrosol will last. I tell them the normally expected life but qualify that by saying that the life could be as little as a month .. or a week .. or a day .. or ZERO seconds IF it was contaminated to begin with .. and few folks know if their Hydrosols are contaminated when they purchase them. A few weeks ago I posted to this list .. the results of a group of Hydrosols we had tested in late November .. all but one tested FAR more pure than the gummit standards for drinking water .. but one of them (a Sandalwood) tested so bad that I would fear putting my finger in it. My point is made so no need to discuss this further. As for my informed opinions on the normal expected life of EO .. I fall back on some of the old posts I have made .. and accept that there will be exceptions .. just as there are exceptions for the normal expected life of Hydrosols. Three of those forty eleven posts follow .. and I have not reviewed them for possible changes .. which might be needed because as time passes we can change opinions on some minor points .. sometimes even on some major points. ;-) http://health./message/21939 http://health./message/26603 http://health./message/29581 Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch ... http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
