Guest guest
Howdy Jess, > Hello all, my name is Jessica and I'm from San Diego California. I'm > an eclectic witch and my focus at the present is on Feri. > > *** I'm trying to follow a more naturalistic path...which is rather > hard to do in my area. I am certain that you will find a lot of beneficial information on this News Group. In fact, of all the News Groups on the Net that concern themselves with alternative and complementary treatments this one is the most credible .. take my word on that. > I didn't grow up in a natural household and I don't know much about > gardening. Odds are that the majority of those on this group are in the same boat. > I hope that I can learn a thing or two as I start to plant my own > true garden this year. I also want to learn to make my own stuff > for my own needs rather than having to buy things that I'm not sure > about. This group might have a thread now and then about gardening .. but it is not the focus of the group. If your main interest is organic gardening then there is another group that you might consider also joining. I feel comfortable in recommending another group here because the focus is entirely different than that of Oils & Herbs. I also feel comfortable recommending them because (1) it is not a commercial group .. no advertising allowed .. and (2) I have a lot of expertise and proven success in the area of organic gardening but if I compare my knowledge to that of the list owner and his moderators on that group I am a rookie .. read that as you will. ;-) That group is .. organichomesteadinggardening .. and if you decide to join I would recommend you chose the daily digest because it has over 7,000 members and receiving individual posts will quickly overwhelm you. I will also mention that the group owner has created a fantastic and well organized archive of gardening info. > I have a tendency to lurk, so forgive me if I'm rather quiet. Lurking is not the best way to get answers to questions .. the best way is to ask questions and get a thread started. ;-) > Thanks for having me, > > Jess. Wishing you luck .. and lots of smiles. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com
Guest guest
--- I agree with Butch about the , I am an urban farmer in Miami and belong to the Organic Homesteading group on as. They have a wealth of information to offer and are like-minded individuals who have gone back to the basics and honor everything natural. You will be surprised the topics often covered, they definitely share many interests with regards to herbs, essential oils and such. I highly reccommend them, they also have a few moderators and regular contributors who I consider to be experts in organic gardening. Be well, Rachel Markel www.eoilcolab.com www.GreenTerpene.com That group is .. organichomesteading gardening .. and if you decide to join I would recommend you chose the daily digest because it has over 7,000 members and receiving individual posts will quickly overwhelm you. Guest guest
Thanks so much. I will look into that site. I am interested in oils and herbs. In fact, my main interest in the garden I mentioned is so that I can distill my own essential oils. Which I've found is a very simple thing to do...it just requires a bit of effort and time. As most people know, California is such a comercialized and " trendy " area. I'm absolutely not into " trendiness " . I certainly don't want to and at the moment can't spend boatloads of money on herbal oils and soaps and incense and remedies when I don't know what really went into making them. So that's my focus, really. I'm starting with simple things like lavender, rosemary, chamomile, and thyme right now, among a few other herbs. I shall see where things go from here and what sorts of ideas come up. Jess

Some of my suppliers have organic farms... they produce hydrosols, but can not grow enough to produce enough essential oil to resell. Guest guest
*chuckles* Yes. I have seen that it takes quite a bit. So this would be just for my own uses. Though I might hold the idea of doing more for much much later in life. At the moment with so much financial crunch going on...I wouldn't even dream of trying to farm to an extent for selling. Perhaps when the market comes back to the point when I can open up my business like I had intended to.......which has nothing to do with herbs...it would be nice to put some of my own products on a few empty shelves... But like I said, I doubt that will come about anytime within the next 10 years. I'm learning things right now purely for my own enjoyment and edification. , Marge Clark <marge wrote: > > At 07:26 AM 2/15/2009, you wrote: > >I am interested in oils and herbs.
