Butches Oregano Vulgare - and Intro

I've been lurking for some time - this group offers a lot of information and

I've gained a wealth of knowledge - now I have a question for you.

My daughter has been sickly with problems that doctors cannot really put a

diagnosis on. She's 36 and when she feels great, she's great, but her

symptoms can come on without notice. It would seem she's got some kind of

arthritus as she will become fairly debilitated over night...then the next

night, she can go out dancing. If she gets any kind of virus, it hits her

bones. She juices fresh ginger and takes that consistantly as it supposedly

reduces inflamation. She recently was diagnosed with a nasty case of the

flu. At the suggestion of this list, I started using Oil of Oregano (that

was already cut) at the onset of the flu season. I've been literally

surrounded by illness, but so far, knock on wood, I've not been sick and

have been able to go to work every day. I suggested that she do the same to

kick the bug so I ordered both her and myself Butches' Oregano Vulgare. I

know that a lot of you order this and highly reccommend it as the best

quality. I had spoke with the lady on the phone and told her what I wanted

it for and she told me how to cut it with Olive Oil...but plainly on the

front of the bottle it says " External Use Dilute properly " . This doesn't

smell like the Oregano Oil that I had bought previously....the other one

plainly smelled like what you'd expect Oregano to smell like - this one

smells more like Tea Tree Oil with a 'hint of the Oregano smell. I know

different types smell different ways. Can someone assure me that this can

indeed be taken internally when cut properly. Just for reference sake, the

original one I'd bought was from Bio Alternatives and I believe was 65%

strength; I think Butches was 85%.

I told her not to use it until I'd gotten some feedback from those who know,

so looking forward to your input.

Just a little bit of info about myself, I'm a 59 year old lady who, as you

can see from my signature, is heavy into rescue. I have a husband who often

times works International employment so am home alone a lot of the

time...therefore, I HAVE to keep myself up and running. I've been

interested in the holistic approach to life for many years and have worked

hard to stay young and healthy. I'm totally intrigued with the posts of

this group and read them faithfully. Thank you for allowing me to be part

of your group and picking your brains.

Real quick as I'm headed out, others can expand on this. All EO's will say

to only use externally. To suggest to anyone to take it internally is

" practicing medicine " and against the law.

As to using it internally. I do this and I give it to my kids. I get a

spoon, fill it halfway with sugar, drop one or two drops of straight

(undiluted) Oregano on the sugar, cover up the Oregano with sugar, get a

glass of water and then I throw " the sugar shot " in the back of my throat

and Slug down the water as an immediate chaser. If I'm in a bad way, I will

do this a couple or three times a day.

Hope that helps

will be back in three days.

Hi All.....

I've heard of another method or two of internal use...

One takes several *deep* sniffs from the bottle, filling your lungs as

much as possible....the theory that it is assimilated via the moist

surfaces of the lungs...This is repeated 3-4 times a day...

Another method I've heard of is sublingual....i.e. a drop under the

tongue....and then breathe deeply a number of times..I don't know how

well that works...I do know it stings mightily if you get any on your

lips....

I recommend these applications not at all, just that I've come across

them before...

Butch's oreganos are some of the finest I've ever run across....

Oregano (vulgare and the rest) are *very* potent EOs, and the percentage

you are interested in is that of the carvacrol content...

I'd suggest doing a google of the word....lots of info out there on it....

Hi Linda

I think Butch already touched on this, but many essential oils when snorted at

full strength don't resemble the original plant material. That is because they

have been distilled and concentrated. To truly appreciate the aroma, you have to

dilute them, let 'em breathe. Having said that, the oregano I've gotten from

Butch in no way resembles tea tree, so I don't know what the deal is there.

(Sorry to hear you're out of the " Lavender Oregano " , Butch. That stuff is

gorgeous in perfume.)

By the way Linda, has your daughter been evaluated for Lupus? Sounds like some

sort of auto-immune thing.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their concerns and helpful

input. A special Thank You to Butch for taking the time to answer my

questions, personally, and also to Kathleen for taking the time to add her

regiment as she was walking out the door.

Regarding the different smell..yes, you are correct, I'm comparing an uncut

oregano to one that is cut with olive oil, thus the difference. I find it

quite amazing that there is such a distinct difference in the odor, but to

my uneducated nose, there is.

Yes, my daughter has been checked for Lupus, they said it wasn't that.

About two years ago, she fell into a nest of spotted ticks and picked ticks

off for about a week. After that she supported a sore throat that no one

could find an answer for from April to December - finally in January, they

took out her tonsils that were literally rotting out of her thoat. She no

doubt was full of bacteria yet it took them that long to agree it was her

tonsils. She stayed with me during that procedure and she literally had to

crawl from point A to point B. They've diagnosed her as having 'reactive

arthritus'. It becomes active when she's got any kind of bacteria in her

system. The original bacteria, according to the doctor, said it also

activated the rheumatoid (sp?) arthritus in her body since our family

carries the gene. During that time, her CRP levels were off the chart at 30

- they said they should be 1. That indicates a powerful overload of

bacteria. In her mind's eye, she thinks the bacteria stemmed from the tick

bites, but she's tested negative for Lyme's disease. It can also be a false

negative, but shows negative at this time. It took an act of congress to

get a Dr. in Texas to even run it. The reason the Dr. this time diagnosed

the flu was they swabbed her nose, came back and said it was flu. I have no

idea what they look for. They told her it was now federal law that she

couldn't return to work for 5 days when diagnosed with the flu because it

was epidemic proportions here. I've never heard of that, but she was given

an excuse for 5 days and sent home when she tried to return early.

She ran a high fever with this bout of illness and during that time is when

she becomes debilitated. Once the fever broke, she was able to walk and get

around without looking like she was 110 years old. This girl is only 36 and

it breaks my heart to see her in pain. This is why I've been looking for

ways to reduce inflamation. Small amounts of Codene is really the only

thing that will alleviate her pain and it doesn't drug her up like it does

me. I hate to take any form of codene for pain as it makes me sleep for

days. The Doctors are of little help and even for myself, I hate to go to

one unless I can tell them what exactly is wrong.

Again, thank you all for your input.

Linda, has she tried pau d'arco tea? That can boost the immune system and

help her fight it herself. Also a very good pain reliever is 2 teaspoons

honey and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup of tea or hot water. I drink

mine on a empty stomach first thing in the morning. After 3 days of that I

found the awful pain in my arms is virtually gone. It is probably

telegraphing down from the arthritis in my shoulders. But it is gone!!!

While this may not get to the root of her problems, it can help manage pain.

There are MANY cases of Lyme's that are undiagnosed or mis-diagnosed because

the virus disguises itself.

Hope this helps.
