Guest guest
Hello Linda, > I've been lurking for some time - this group offers a lot of information and > I've gained a wealth of knowledge - now I have a question for you. Better it is not to lurk .. asking questions is how folks get answers here. > My daughter has been sickly with problems that doctors cannot really put a > diagnosis on. She's 36 and when she feels great, she's great, but her > symptoms can come on without notice. It would seem she's got some kind of > arthritus as she will become fairly debilitated over night...then the next > night, she can go out dancing. If she gets any kind of virus, it hits her > bones. She juices fresh ginger and takes that consistantly as it supposedly > reduces inflamation. If it were my daughter I would get a different diagnosis from a different doctor. > She recently was diagnosed with a nasty case of the flu. That means .. the doctor didn't know what the problem was but he diagnosed based on the symptoms. Flu is a pretty good guess in most cases. > At the suggestion of this list, I started using Oil of Oregano (that > was already cut) at the onset of the flu season. I've been literally > surrounded by illness, but so far, knock on wood, I've not been sick and > have been able to go to work every day. My guess .. based on the terms your use here " Oil of Oregano " is that you purchased the diluted product sold by North American Herb & Spice .. or one of the many spin offs of that organization. They were recently fined 2.5 million bucks by the courts .. and are still having to deal with the FCC and FDA on some other issues that might get them into more hot water. > I suggested that she do the same to kick the bug so I ordered both her and myself > Butches' Oregano Vulgare. Correct .. on 10 February 2009. > I know that a lot of you order this and highly reccommend it as the best > quality. It is that .. the best quality. It is GC tested and straight from the fields of Turkey .. wild grown. But there are many retailers here who also offer than oil as they get it from me wholesale. > I had spoke with the lady on the phone and told her what I wanted > it for and she told me how to cut it with Olive Oil... Here I am gonna assume that you talked to Margaret .. and I don't know exactly what you told her you wanted it for but she is not supposed to be giving any type of advise in that regard .. I keep my folks away from giving advise because they are not trained in this subject .. nor do I want them to be. However, since she said cut it with Olive Oil I will assume you told her you wanted to ingest it .. that is the only reason I would PERSONALLY use Olive Oil .. for my own use .. but I would NOT recommend others do that and I will not allow my employees to make such recommendations. We are not medical doctors. > but plainly on the front of the bottle it says " External Use Dilute properly " . This statement also makes me believe that you suggested to her that you wanted to ingest it. First .. the label is a Cover Your a$$ label .. like the one on your hair dryer saying don't use it when you are in the bath .. or the one some fast food places put on coffee cups telling people the coffee is hot and they should not pour it over their body. Any responsible seller of EO should have that statement on the label of their bottles. There are a few dozen other warning messages we could add if the labels had room. Secondly .. I fall back on my statement above that we are not medical doctors and to recommend or even suggest the ingestion of an EO is getting close to prescribing medicine without a license. That is one of the many problems North American Herb and Spice ran into. Off the track a minute .. I will mention that there is another News Group that is concerned with Alternative and Complementary Treatment .. not near as informative as this one and certainly not nearly as concerned with safe use of EO .. that has open discussions of any and all wild schemes to achieve health and happiness. I have monitored it for a long time but rarely post. The other day I made a post that exposed some of the Bovine Excrement marketing of many who sell Oregano EO .. and either the List Mom or one of her moderators saw fit to not allow that post .. and did not even have the courtesy to write me off line and explain why. On 13 February, I wrote to the List Mom: " I sent an informative post on Oregano .. it was designed to burst one of the many balloons of marketing hype that is being used by too many companies to peddle Oregano EO .. and to save the lists members some money. Someone saw fit to not allow it on the list. On the other hand, I see a new post from a fellow in Israel proclaiming how great Oreganol is .. and that product is one of the phony products produced by North American Herb & Spice ... which has been fined 2.5 million by the FCC for false advertising and is still under investigation by the FDA for using unreasonable claims to peddle products. Though unproven and wild claims are daily posted to this News Group I am generally quiet .. I've probably not made more than a dozen posts since joining the group .. and the reason is because after so many years in this industry one can easily become disaffected .. the false claims will continue and I have no time to attack windmills .. but it is pretty much accepted in this industry that I am one of the experts on the Origanums .. so it bothers me when a list owner or moderator does not approve a post I write and does not have the courtesy to advise me why it was not approved. Is this News Group about educating the public .. or protecting certain interests? If it is determined to be the latter then I must leave and I must tell others why I left. " UNQUOTE I have not received an answer .. my opinion is that there are many people on that group who are peddling this product. If anyone wants to know what the group is .. write me off line. I think that the List Mom of that group is a member of the Oils & Herbs News Group. Now back to our story. ;-) > This doesn't smell like the Oregano Oil that I had bought previously....the other one > plainly smelled like what you'd expect Oregano to smell like - this one smells > more like Tea Tree Oil with a 'hint of the Oregano smell. If by " this one " you mean the Origanum vulgare you ordered from us .. that is not possible .. unless they sent you the wrong darn oil .. that is .. they sent Tea Tree. Even the worse Oregano on the market could in no way smell like Tea Tree. ;-) If you are discussing the odor of the oil prior to you diluting it .. and comparing it to something you purchased from another source .. then all I can say is that the other source is not selling pure Origanum. If you are referring to the odor of the product AFTER you yourself diluted it with Olive Oil .. then it probably smells like Olive Oil with Oregano in it. ;-) > I know different types smell different ways. Not all that different. There are basically FIVE common Carvacrol rich Origanums on the market and the trying to describe the odor twixt all of them is splitting hairs. > Can someone assure me that this can indeed be taken internally when cut properly. Now I know that you are concerned with Ingestion. You have been reading or listening to too much marketing hype. One can Google Oregano EO and find fourth eleven dozen outfits claiming to be selling " mountain grown " Origanum vulgare (which is BS) and telling you to take it in capsules or put it under your tongue, etc. It is all BS!!!!!! There is absolutely no scientific basis for such claims and they were begun by ex-doctor (since defrocked) Cass Igram of North American Herb & Spice. Nobody can tell us what happens to an EO after it hits stomach acid. The CORRECT way to use a Carvacrol rich Origanum is via inhalation .. that is what Aromatherapy is all about .. the intake of the volatile molecules of the oil .. through the olfactory system .. which eventually gets it to the blood stream. > Just for reference sake, the original one I'd bought was from Bio Alternatives and I believe was 65% > strength; I think Butches was 85%. By strength I believe you are referring to the percentage of Carvacrol. That shown for Origanum vulgare on my retail site at http://www.av-at.com/prices.html is 84.43% Carvacrol .. and we have roughly 4-5 bottles of that batch left .. have none in wholesale .. the new batch is 70.85%, There are many valid reasons for this but I won't bore y'all with the details now .. I've already made this post too long. ;-) I will say that the percentage level of Carvacrol is not all that important anyway if one is gonna dilute it .. and I will say that one should not expect to find another Turkish Origanum vulgare with a Carvacrol percentage above 80% .. those who wanna know why can write me off line .. but its actually trivia except for those who are serious students of Essential Oils. > I told her not to use it until I'd gotten some feedback from those who know. I expect that there are a few hundred folks on this list who know .. but from the horse's mouth lemme go on record to say that though I have personally ingested Origanum .. my company does not recommend or even suggest ingestion of any EO. I will also say that there are other knowledgeable practitioners (I am not an AT Practitioner) who personally ingest some EO but they know why they are doing it and they would not recommend it to others because they fear that the novices will use the wrong oil for the wrong reasons and in the wrong amount. > Just a little bit of info about myself, I'm a 59 year old lady who, as you > can see from my signature, is heavy into rescue. I have a husband who often > times works International employment so am home alone a lot of the > time...therefore, I HAVE to keep myself up and running. I've been > interested in the holistic approach to life for many years and have worked > hard to stay young and healthy. I'm totally intrigued with the posts of > this group and read them faithfully. Thank you for allowing me to be part > of your group and picking your brains. Welcome. I am a tad older than you .. and not too concerned about the holistic approach as it is defined by many in their marketing .. though I and my family do practice holistic alternative treatment as I KNOW it to really be .. and I can understand your need to stay healthy in that I spent more than half my life working overseas .. 90% of that time is either Islamic or moderate Muslim countries. My recommendation to you is to get off the ingestion .. practice Aromatherapy .. sniff the oils. And if you want to know more about use of Oregano EO write me off line .. I will get to a reply in a day or two but I can't promise an immediate response. Reason is .. I am busting butt now putting the new (updated) web site together. My web site is still broken ... it has been locked tight for some time now and we could not get in to make changes. I had arranged for a person to do a revised site and he was working on it .. was to have had it completed by New Year 2009 .. but for some reason he has gone missing .. he is not answering the telephone or e-mails. So, Martin Watt has agreed to do the site for me .. and the work he is doing is outstanding .. Martins' web site is at http://www.aromamedical.com/ I have sent the NEW Wholesale Price List to all my old Wholesale customers ... if I missed any of you .. gimme a note and I'll send it along. We will next attack the Retail link and Gud Lawd Willing the entire site will be back in good shape .. and automated .. in a couple of weeks. > Linda Amedee > TXIMPS - Co Regional > AHDR - Volunteer > Hopes Haven - Volunteer > www.feed-your-dog-naturally.com I agree on feeding dawgs naturally .. my sweet feral dawg (Hunter) lives mostly on venison. ;-) Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch ... http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/> * - - - - - - - - - - - FACTS ON THE ORIGANUMS - - - - - - - - - - * *All of the Origanum's except the Origanum dubium Linalool Type are Carvacrol rich and Carvacrol is the active therapeutic component most people seek.* *Origanum vulgare* is the best seller though its really no better or worse than any other Origanum. Maybe people think its the best because there is one company making health claims and selling it as * " Oil of Oregano " * in a 10% Oregano/90% Olive Oil mixture for as much as $39.95 per 2/3 ounce bottle. People see mine as being less costly. With mine, one can mix their own and create a dozen bottles of the $39.95 product for less than half the price. And that company is *NOT selling ONLY Origanum vulgare* .. I know their supplier and they are producing as much *Origanum dubium Carvacrol *as they are anything else. * I will add that the company I speak of was charged with false advertising and taken to court by the FTC. On 31 July 2008, they were fined 2.5 million dollars and had many, many other restrictions placed on them. I believe that they will probably have to close their company.* *Origanum onites* has been the next best seller and that might be due to some things I've written on it and a portion of the lecture I gave at an Aromatherapy Conference in Toronto, Canada in September 1999. I presented some research conducted by *five prominent professors in Turkey using Origanum onites* in a project involving lung tumors in rats, using three different groups and three treatments, one of them being a normal cancer treatment. I presented the study and showed the audience colored micro slides of the lung tissues. The *Origanum onites *not only stopped the growth but also caused recession of the growths! The lung tissue was reverting to its previously normal pink and clear state!! *I made it clear that this is not an indication that it will cure cancer in humans but it shows a great need for further research. * *Origanum dubium Carvacrol* is the next best seller, possibly because it appears to have a slightly milder odor than the others. Turkish folks generally prefer it for home medication. *Contrary to the marketing claims of many fad sales companies .. to include the one I mentioned above,* *Origanum onites and Origanum dubium Carvacrol*have the exact same therapeutic properties as does *Origanum vulgare.* *In fact, they are not all selling Origanum vulgare anyway .. the world supply is not sufficient to supply all those who make such claims. *To take it a bit further .. I have supplied companies who make claims of selling only Origanum vulgare .. *but that is NOT all they purchased from me. * *Origanum dubium (Linalool type)* is in its own class .. a very nice odor and dual therapeutic value. It's high in *linalool,* as is lavender, and high in *carvacrol,* as is oregano. It has properties of both oregano and lavender .. so much so that the common name in Turkey is Lavanta Kekik (Lavender Oregano.) It's endemic to Turkey - it is not found elsewhere and even in Turkey it's only found in a very small corner of the Southeast. When people get samples of it from us, they buy it. I normally use it for inhalation and it is great for diffusion - I love the odor. It is out of stock now. *I personally prefer Origanum vulgare, Origanum onites or Origanum dubium Carvacrol for assisting in kicking Big Bad Bug Butts (cold, flu, sinuses) and I personally believe that they help me and mine but I would never make claims that they can kill these critters because I do not have FDA approved studies to support it .. and I have never and will never make recommendations or even suggestions to others on ingestion of essential oils. I recommend buyers consult their doctor prior to this manner of usage. * For diffusion any one will do the job but just for inhalation, I'd go with the *Origanum dubium (Linalool type)* because I love the odor. Unfortunately, it is out of stock now . there is none in the market this year. *All Origanum's *have reported antiseptic, anti microbial, anti fungal, anti-spasmodic properties and they are believed to be capable of stimulating the immune system .. which can assist the body to overcome viral infections by putting the virus in a retrograde mode.. by stopping its reproduction so it goes back into defilade position. *The above statement is based on in vivo and in vitro studies on the properties of Carvacrol but it would be a violation of FDA and FTC regulations to extrapolate information from those lab studies and attempt to indicate that they apply to human beings .. accordingly, I do not make such claims.* *So - one can choose based on the above descriptions of each oil. *
Guest guest
I have a few questions.......what are her labs saying? I don't have it that comes and goes that fast but ultimately by ruling out other diseases what was ruled in was fibromylagia with diabetic neuropathy, CFS and menieres, When I'm down I'm down for sometimes up to 2 weeks and never plan on stuff. Its under control now or as much as it ever will be and I thought I had arthritis , had all the signs but sed rates etc were normal. CFS can do it and its a darned shame but its I think all explainable, they just arent looking in the right areas......I wonder sometimes if its not like things that are dormant until triggered by something. I am curious, does she get something that seems like an 'aura' for lack of a better term giving her an idea or clue that this may be coming on? I see someone said 'i would find another doctor' and if this is a common thing for here, ditto that! You have to know what you are treating tho. I know people mean well when they want to share an oil that worked well for them etc.....and this is one thing in at least a chain store we were taught regarding herbs etc....never diagnose nor prescribe....so many things mimic other things theoretically one could get in a jamb, not get a proper test for a treatable condition and ultimately let it run until is no longer so easy to treat.....if I'm reading correctly , this is pretty long LOL......being dyslexic didn't help so if I'm off base, do disregard. On quality of oils....thats a whole different kettle of fish. I just wish they weren't so dad gummed expensive. So many times its cheaper to take meds.........and thats not always good for ya either! evie
