Hi Lori, Sorry to disappoint you but they are not all microscopic. They are - as an adult about 1/8 " long and flesh colored when they haven't eaten. Once they have fed on you they are purplish red - from the blood. They are soft skinned and you can 'squish' them in your fingers. I used a tissue to kill a bunch of them when we were at the hotel that was infested! The baby ones can be much smaller of course, but all of them bite and move rather quickly. I reported it to the State authorities ASAP as I knew it was something that needed to be reported to the State health department. I have never seen them before that time but as soon as I saw one I knew what it was as my Mom had described them to me years ago about when she once stayed at a friends house that had them! I remember her saying they hated lights so we slept with the lights on. And yes the bites were on me, slow to heal. They itched and were red for well over a week. I imagine they use something in their bites to keep the blood from clotting and of course that causes skin irritation. I do k now that you can be allergic to them; I have been skin tested, and am allergic. I have the allergen matress pad, works nicely. > Lori >
