Since Martin is not on the group now to speak for himself .. I reckon I will

do that to the degree that I think he deserves it. ;-)

 

Punches he does throw .. that is a big fer'shur .. but few folks avoid him

and his web site is one of the most informative ones around. Martin's

knowledge is respected by those in the natural products industry in the UK

and by many of us here in the U.S.A. and in other countries.

*I don't think many folks consider Martin to be " persona no grata " , though

he does have the ability to make some folks uneasy and make some others

think he is a troll .. and I've told him that many times. But those who

know him well know that he is not really a troll .. maybe a grouch but not a

troll. ;-) Come to think on it .. I expect that some folks think I am a

troll .. but I'm really a sweet feller .. homeless dawgs and kats seek me

out. ;-)

 

I believe that Martin is frustrated at a lot because of the great amount of

ridiculous and unsafe crap that is pitched by many in the field of AT .. I

know that I am .. I have been for a long time .. to the point of becoming

disaffected. It is easy to give the impression that one is a sorehead when

they have been butting their head against walls for many years. I have

almost stopped writing on News Groups for that reason .. it is tiring.

Having been on this News Group since it was a pup with around 100 + folks ..

I have seen it grow to where it is now and I do recall a half dozen or so

thin skinned folks who left because Martin zapped them over their attempts

to put out foolish .. sometimes dangerous information that was either

designed to sell products or to give the impression that the writer knew a

lot when they really didn't know doodle squat. But best as I can recall

those folks were not really adding anything to the group and in time they

would have found another reason to leave .. like maybe going on to their

next exciting adventure .. scrap booking or whatever. They generally knew

not the level of expertise on the group .. and instead of sitting back and

watching to learn what that level was, they decided to impress folks with

what they knew and started passing along incorrect and unreferenced material

from various How To books that were regurgitation's of previously published

unreferenced materials from similar books.

 

As for Martin's sting .. dang .. since I started on the News Groups back in

1995 I have seen .. and have personally been a part of .. knock down and

drag outs where the folks who were doing the knocking are now good buddies

... to include many of those I butted heads with. I have always believed

that contrary to how we would like for it to be .. these News Groups are not

Sunday Tea Parties and the alternative complementary field is one where

those who are serious about it are often very passionate about their beliefs

... and that's good cause there is little learning when everyone is walking

on eggs and trying to avoid stepping on toes. There is also little

learning by those who are thin skinned .. not just in AT .. but in life.

Do I believe everything in his archives? Generally I do but we will never

have a meeting of minds on some things because he is too Green for me .. but

I expect a good third of the readers here now are the same way. ;-)

 

Could Martin be more kind when he disputes crap on the News Groups? Yep ..

at least according to me and you and probably some other folks .. but that

is not his personality type .. he has a completely different form of

communication .. as do many folks. But in person his communication is

different than it is in writing . .as is the case with many folks .. and

those who have gone to him for assistance received all they needed and

more. His heart is big and his bark is far worse than his bite. ;-)

 

Martin has been my buddy since 1996 or so but we have had far more knock

downs and drag outs than most folks could ever imagine .. some was on line

on the groups and some was off line using language that might shock some of

you retired sailors. But I continue to learn much from him and so can

others if they are willing to believe that if you wanna see a Rainbow .. you

gotta stand a little Rain. ;-)

 

Lots of folks change their minds about people after getting to know them

better .. we see that now in the polls regarding the recent U.S. elections

... same goes for getting to know Martin .. those who have met him at various

AT Shindigs quickly develop a different opinion of the dude.

 

There is a wise old Baba tale in Turkey that goes like .. " To really know

someone you must either travel with them, drink with them or gamble with

them. " As far as I know Martin is not a gambler but we have had a few beers

together in Canada and in Turkey .. and have traveled a good bit together in

Turkey. So I reckon I might know him better than most folks here. ;-)**
