Guest guest
We're gathering horsemint (Monarda punctata) for our horsemint soap! And last month got bluebonnets for our bluebonnet soap since we lost our farm grown source. cheers! maggie hanus, soap bartender http://www.awildsoapbar.com http://www.awildsoapbar.blogspot.com http://twitter.com/awildsoapbar
Guest guest
My Spearmint has gone Ca RAY ZEE! I snipped it today and will be distilling it tomorrow. Not much eo but a lot of hydrosol!! My Basil and Oregano, and Pelegranium and Lemon Balm and Comfrey are all doing great guns as well. Need to cut those to infuse. Not the Basil and Oregano…will put those in oil for culinary use. My tomatoes are ½ thriving, and ½ spindly. It is the heirlooms that are not doing well yet…hopefully they will though. Hope everyone Thanked a Veteran today. Guest guest
Four-lined bug, eh? I wonder what that is. Maybe make a pepper spray or soap spray for it? They might deter the bugs and not hurt the plants. We had a run of beautiful days, and last night I gathered as much of various mints and elderflowers as I could before the rain came overnight. I make small batches of dried herb teas for our very small farmers market. Maggie, does the bluebonnet have properties? Or do you add it for local flavor - much like we make a bright yellow soap and call it Distlefink (Thistle finch aka gold finch in PA Dutch) in honor of our own area. No gold finches are injured in the creation of the soap, however. Guest guest
Maggie, as we were driving back up from Mullen this weekend we saw lots of horsemint and thought of it. It was the one that you harvest rather than what we have around here.
