Guest guest
I am writing this before all my incoming mail has downloaded, so if this has been said, that is alright, as it can never be said enough. To Butch and others on the list who are veterans, THANK YOU!! To the wives/husbands of vets, mothers, daughters, sons, etc. THANK YOU as well. I am the wife and sister of Viet Nam veterans. Although I wasn't married to my hubby during his service, I admire him and love to say that he and my brother served their country with honor. If you are Free to read this email..Thank a Veteran. Regards, Anita

Guest guest
How lovely. I spent yesterday thinking per capita it sounds like 4 thousand + lives lost this war would not have such a profound effect. Out of that rough estimate, who among us doesn't know someone who gave all, knows a family of those who gave all, or lives in a community with one who has given all. My daughter is in the Air Force. A very dear family friend died on mother's day in Iraq the year before Kasey died and it completely devastated our communities....and our friendships. These sort of things happen. To look in the eyes of people you know sometimes is a reminder of the past and it hurts to the soul so its best to 'retreat' and avoid all one can to cope. We saw bikers that were Viet Nam Vets line both sides of the road who drove in from all over the united states from just outside Ardmore to where the service took place in a neighboring town and to see people, small children stand at the end of their drive ways holding small American Flags as we all drove past was absolutely the most incredible thing I've witnessed . This boy I knew since he was 5 , a 'lucky' kid in all things and literally the news of his death was around the globe in minutes. My grandfather retired having served in two wars and Korea as Lt. Col. Carter Harrison Johnson. my dad served in war time before there was an Air Force, it was Army Air Corp , my spouse is a veteran and our daughter continues 'service' to country and I am honored to have known all of them, to have come from them and to have given birth to one and I have wept tears for my friend who was on her way home for her mothers day phone call . She did get her call, It was not what she was expecting and in some way many men who did not know the young man who died felt compelled to come and ensure that those who protested would not get close and in some measure find closure at a time when the Viet Nam Vets came home the lack of gratitude they came home to. Our country disappointed them and sadly many soldiers of all military backgrounds were literally treated in the fashion of 'blame the messenger' and this was in some way validation for these men, now getting on in years beaming with pride thru tear streaked faces and I do hope they felt our love and appreciation. Indeed thank a vet. Its my opinion that the moment they sign on that line they have just stepped into the role of 'Hero'. To you and yours and all who serve, you honor us and no one can take your honor away. A very somber and most humble Evie.
