Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for writing. I don't believe this is systemic, as he only gets the bites when he's in that bed. And we didn't piecemeal out the changes, we did a system overhaul. The other night we brought in a new bed with new mattress and new sheets and vaccumed toys and drapes and basically gave the room a total makeover. And he woke up with more bug bites! GURRRR!!!! I don't think they are bed bugs, because the bed is gone. The old mattress is gone. it's all gone! So I took out that big fluffy comfortor and washed it on 95 degrees celcius with some tto and vinegar in the mix and then put it in the sun to dry. Now he's got a totally NEW blanket and we will see if we will bring the old blanket back at all (it's still hanging outside drying!) I bought some peppermint eo (unfortunately no latin name that I can tell on the bottle, hey, this is Israel!) but the health food store assured me this was 100% pure eo (which it DOES say on the bottle) and the price was right...so I am diffusing it now (a few drops in water lit with a tea light next to the bed) and then we got a Weleda spray that you put on the skin with citronella and neem and some other things that I don't quite know how to translate. But we have liked Weleda products in the past. This was safe for children. And we sprayed him down before bed. He wears different PJ's every night. Different materials. I really don't think it's from that. I think there is a bug in the room...or coming in through a hole in the " cabin " we live in somewhere and biting him. Hopefully tonight will be better. And if not, we'll keep pluggin away. Anyway, I have another question OT...could anyone tell me if Vanilla Absolute can be used topically on children? (obviously in a carrier oil) I've heard that this is very good for preventing bug bites. What are some of the other uses for vanilla absolute (non perfume related)? Also, would some of these oils be dangerous to pregnant women...for example the citronella or peppermint in a diffuser or diluted and applied topically? A bunch of us are contemplating a camping trip and some of the group are pregnant so I'm wondering if it might be dangerous for them to smell it on someone else or in a diffuser...or to apply topically. And while we are on the subject...are there any eo's that could be used (if so, how) to help prevent early miscarriage? Thanks, Rivkah PS, Butch, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother in law. My thoughts go out to your wife and her family. It's a shame you can't all go back to Russia with her. But you will do just fine with your boy! Guest guest
Rivka, I like Weleda products, too Do be careful about using any EO,s neat on yourself or your child, no mattr what you might have read or someone told you. it may 'work', but also could set the person up to be sensitized to that product for life. About the bites. What kind of floor do you have? Carpet? Who lived in the house before you did , where there animals? Sounds to me like fleas. They can hide anywhere , especially in carpets for a long long, time, or cracks in a floor board and they have a feeding cycle, also are picky of whom they 'love'.... We had a dog visiting once and when my husband sat in a certain chair he got bit, none of us ever did. For bug bites when new, I have made a salve out of plantain, comfrey, calendula, a little lavender EO and ttree EO.When the bites are scratched and look nasty,. I use Desitin. I know most Americans think Desitin is only for babies behind. Not so. Great for any wound, especially burns, cuts etc. It even took care of my bedsores when I was hospitalized. I wish you good luck to figure out the mysteries of the bites. Do you have neighbors? Do they have kids and do they get bites? C-M
