Guest guest
Hi Everyone that suffers from Acid Reflux or Heartburn (or knows someone that does). The best food solution my husband and I have found and it works for us every time is eating 2 stalks of fresh Celery when heartburn strikes! My husband gets acid reflux and has had bouts of heartburn frequently due to a hiatal hernia (a type of hernia involving the diaphram where a small portion of the stomach sneaks through the diaphram and causes a lot of pain and discomfort). Anyway - even last night he had to get up at 1 o'clock and have his bites of celery. (He had a piece of carrot cake and cup of decaf coffee about an hour before going to bed and that will almost always set it off - but oh the cake was soooooo good!) Yes it is weird hearing him crunch, crunch, crunch, but he hasn't had to take a prescription for Zantac, Pepcid or any other antacid in nearly 10-12 years (can't remember when he quit taking those). It takes about 10-20 minutes for the celery to work. He sits up for about that long until the discomfort subsides. But then he's back in bed and sound asleep. Will it work for you? Don't know. But I read about Celery sticks helping back along long time ago and now, that is our food of choice when heartburn or acid reflux strikes. Hopefully you will find this " Celery " treatment - a non-prescription or OTC drug method will work for you too. It's simple and very cost effective! Guest guest
That's good to know. Thanks. Have him try a glass of milk instead of decaf coffee next time. Even decaf sets me off! Guest guest
I suffer from acid reflux, fruits and vegies seem to irritate my stomach more I guess we can see by the many posts on here that everyone reacts differently to different treatments because we are all different. For me what helps me is herbal teas like chamomile with a touch of milk and a drop of honey. Helps me get back to sleep also when it strikes in the night. I was having trouble before daily and nightly with acid reflux and now I get it maybe once a month to 2 times a month. Once you find what works for you will find it will become less and less to deal with. Trick is finding what works for you what soothes your heart burn .....good luck *~Stormy~* --- On Fri, 6/12/09, Penny <pennyK wrote: Penny <pennyK Hi Everyone that suffers from Acid Reflux or Heartburn (or knows someone that does). Guest guest
Hi, Everyone. Apple Cider Vinegar also does the job. A teaspoon or two in a glass of water (with or without honey, I love the vinegar taste myself), and taken daily. It cured my friend's reflux - he never had to resort to OTC or prescription meds. Just my $.02. Thanks. Love and light, Angela (our of lurkdom for a change) www.boulderhealers.com
