I had one on my wrist that went away - they said it was cause d by

repetitive motion - admin asst. Our youngest son had a huge one on

the top of his hand when he was about 5. He loved to play with Legos.

The dr. said it would probably go away. Well, he fell on the top of

his hand, breaking his wrist, while playing T-ball - so much for that

ganglion cyst!!

Right now my DH has one on his elbow. itis huge, too. Looks horrible.

The doc won't do anything about it.

Hi Mary,

These cysts used to be 'smacked' with the " Good Book " back in the day. But

more modern treatment depends on their location and if they are causing any

problems with daily function.

I have had one for years on my second knuckle of my right index finger.

Sometimes it is the size of a large pea and at other times it is nearly

impossible to find.

They are a fluid filled sac and the body will sometimes have a natural

drainage opening, as has occured with mine. For the most part though if they

become a problem they can be 'drained' by inserting a hypodermic needle and

sucking the fluid out or they may have to be surgically removed as was the case

with my husbands.

His was in/on his wrist. It was affecting his grip and causing discomfort

(pain and numbness). The 'sack' or cyst was very large but only a small portion

was able to be seen on the outside. The majority of his cyst was inter-twined

within the small bones of the wrist and under the connective tissue that holds

your wrist together.

He had to have his surgically removed and then had several weeks of healing

and physical therapy.

So depending on the size, location and functionality you may be experiencing

depends on what needs to be done.

We sought the advise of an orthopedic surgeon since it involve his wrist

bones.

Good luck. If it is interferring in your daily life have it checked.

Penny
