Guest guest
When an EO retailer or MLM company says their oils are GC/MS tested, are processed the way they should be for that particular oil (steam distilled, pressed, etc) and the oils come from the same country (for example, all of the various companies lavender comes from France), would you assume they are all the same quality? If not, why? I have very little experience with comparing and using the same oil from various sources to know the difference. There are so many sources for oils these days. When they all claim the same high quality and testing, I have no idea how to know that I am getting the best for my money. I feel that I have done extensive research to see what is considered " the best " when it comes to testing and processing, but even when comparing retailers who all claim they follow these standards, there are still large variances in pricing. I need some direction from people who have experience. I'm open to all feedback. Lady

LadyMy advice is to be wary of companies that market their essential oils as therapeutic grade, medicinal grade, pharmaceutical grade, professional grade, organic and wild crafted as these terms are NOT regulated with regards to the Aromatherapy industry. Medicinal grade implies a falsehood that essential oil are classified by grade, which they are not. Professional grade implies or could well imply that the products are more efficacious than competitors’ products. This is likely a false and misleading statement about the comparative effectiveness of the product. As you will probably see everything under the sun is being stated to sell essential oils.  But there are a few things that are measurable and can be quantified. Ask for the GC, MSDS sheets, Spec Sheets, shelf life and the following information that will guide you more appropriately: Density / Specific Gravity: 0.9050 - 0.9350 g/cm3 at 25 ºC Optical Rotation: -5º to +10º Refractive Index: 1.4500 - 1.4700 at 20 ºC Ask for samples before you make a large purchase, create an archive of samples so that you have something to compare other oils to. Smell and taste are always key indicators of quality this comes with experience over time. Make sure the manufacturer discloses the latin botanical name and correct country of origin.Good luck!Be well,Rachel

Tests can mean basically that something is what it says it is...I often wonder how many folks know which side of GC/MS is up...I mean I don't, except when I'm helped by text... For example...a crummy oil can test out alright...it still will be a crummy oil..suitable for scenting the trash can... Also....you probably have to refine your question...the best for your money...how? Do you want a " theraputic " lavender, or a highly floral one...An absolute...or an EO...? I can also tell you this...there is NO ONE SOURCE that has the best of everything...If someone claims that, take your money and run... Uhhhhhh, did your extensive research overlook the NP Guild's list of recommended suppliers...? -- Gary W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Folks frequently email asking " which xxx oil is the best " and my question is ALWAYS " what do you want to accomplish with it? Guest guest
Completely agree with Marge's remark here . . . NP supplier list is completely biased, arbitrary and exclusioniary . . . based on NP members only. The Guild's List is of Guild suppliers....And it's a place to start because there are some very good suppliers on the List.....(Butch, for example, and there's others).... I'm also sure, that similar references to great suppliers can be found here....Both Marge and Marcia are great suppliers of essences, also.... There's also EOU (Doc Pappas) and, if you know what you're doing Liberty Natural Products..... My point being.....if yer doing " extensive " research, don't overlook information right in front of your nose..... -- Gary W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
The Good Scents Company has done a fabulous job of listing all of their suppliers, you can go straight to the source for each oil. Be well, Rachel .. ____,___
