Had that been me in that much pain, I'd have been to a doctor long ago! Does your friend have an aversion to medical treatment? That's a long time to suffer from a bite. I'd suggest that first. I was once bitten by a spider as I sat poolside at night. I didn't feel the bite, yet within minutes I had a swelling about the size of a golf ball. It didn't hurt at all, except when I touched it. The swelling was very hard. I left it alone for a day or two, hoping it would resolve on it's own, but it didn't, so I applied hot poultices for a few hours, changing each as it cooled for a clean, hot one. I used mashed up plantain leaves, hot water and cloth, but any drawing material would do (I once made up an effective emergency poultice of grated cabbage to draw a painful infection from someone; had it not cleared up that night I would have taken them to the doctor in the morning). Anyway, the poultice I used on myself took a few hours to draw the infection, which then easily ruptured. Disgusting I know, but a big relief. Your client should change the poultices she uses as they cool, and throw the used ones away if they hold plant material. Even just a hot compress would likely help; renew it as it cools. Watch the site of the rupture - she should clean it well and dress it,and watch to be certain there is no more infection. Echinacea helps internally. For something like this I'd suggest fairly aggressive doses for several days until it's clearly cleanly healing. Dara
