Guest guest
Hi, Tammy- I'm a reader/lurker on the list, being a beginner with essential oils, but I can pipe in on this issue with a story about Sherry, my little sister's best friend from high school. Her mom was extremely protective of her family about germs and diseases, probably obsessive compulsive, actually-- they had to wipe down their purses, hands, and shoes with antibacterial wipes, etc. each time they came home from the " contaminated " outside world. She kept their house spotless, washed their pets obsessively, bleached everything imaginable. My sister went to college with this woman's daughter and they shared a dorm room together. As soon as she got to college, Sherry started to get sick nonstop-- for about two years. She apparently didn't have as much experience fighting germs as kids with more " dirty " households. It was a miserable time for her, and difficult for her to do well in her classes as well. ....so I think the cleanliness thing can be overdone, and actually end up hurting your kids. Hope that's the kind of input you're looking for... I love this list and am enjoying learning from you all! Kim > I recall you recently mentioning that you & your family inhale Oregano > daily & Alexander has not yet had a cold. Noah is 1 month younger > than Alexander and unfortunately has had a few colds, but we love your > Oregano Vulgare & it definitely helps. I'm curious about Alexander > not being sick yet, though? My in-laws think I'm " overboard " when it > comes to cleanliness b/c I do what I can to reduce the risk of illness > by making Noah wash hands throughout the day as well as using anti- > bacterial wipes when soap & water are not available. (Of course, I > also love bleach! lol) They say that he " needs to be exposed to > sickness b/c it builds his immunity & defends him from greater illness > later in life " . If you or someone else can share w/me your thoughts > on this, I'd love to hear different views. > > Also, for the inhalation process, how is that most effective? Guess > you can just sniff directly out of the bottle? > > Best wishes, > > Tammy Tivis > www.ElementsBathandBody.com > Wholesale Soap Making & Toiletry Supplies >
Guest guest
Oooo. good topic about over clean (kill). My MIL was OCD and my step grandmother as well....to this day pinesol makes me ill....but a lot of people dont know that a sign of a malfunctioning immune system is NEVER getting sick with something. Once my mother in law did..it was fatal. Had she had symptoms of a cold or anything else in life she would have gone for check ups. But I think all the cleaning chemicals also became toxic as she cleaned non stop. All sprays of sorts and really it was like visiting a clinic. She died at 47 and her mother could not accept it because she had NEVER been sick. By the time it was obvious she was ill it was too late. WAaaaaaay too late. So in order to keep an immune system up it has to now and again be hit by something in order to build antibodies. Often, those always sick have a compromised immune system or allergies undetected . In over 30 years I've had the flu ONCE. I dont get colds etc...I'm not an over doer in the house anymore because kids who play in the dirt often are healthier. So dusting, mopping and vacuming in a normal state is fine. Washing hands is mandatory but if we could see what lives ON US we'd all freak out and dive into bleach not understanding some of that bacteria is good for us...think yeast infections...too much of one thing out of balance...but the reverse is bad too. So what happened to me? A surgery. A common surgery totally crashed my system and I went from rocky mountain climbing out fish yo butt mama to full disability due to a 'syndrome'....and yet you will not see one time I've had to take antibiotics . My daughter and her baby died because of a 'sydrome' . So none of this is to be taken lightly. I know a lady who lost a finger cleaning an aquarium , routine care and she had a 'cut' on her finger and became sick with the same syndrome that claimed the lives of my babies. Its a crap shoot . A healthy aquarium is like healthy flora in our bodies..so her system was down. Balance. Common sense Balance. Door knobs, GROCERY CARTS, produce (god knows who's been groping that or whats on their hands when they push a cart or who's baby will get strep or ecoli from another little one who was teething on the handle.....BUGS THEY'RE EVERY WHERE!..... I was lucky to have had a doctor who did blood tests on my kids instead of simply writing a script for what ailed them. If no white count showed up in over drive they didn't get an antibiotic. i was told by that doctor to quit being sterile because the child who died in 2007 would never build natural immunities and the very products I was using was causing her asthma to worsen leaving her open for secondary infection. It is my belief my daughter lived to be 24 because I STOPPED being ocd and using 'downy' and perfumes and all the neat things we think makes our home 'welcoming' when all it requires is a nice grin and a hug and 'hey wanna cup?' I think had I not stopped that and gone alternative REASONABLY she would have died before high school. Her pregnancy simply cratered what was left of her immune system . ARDS. I will say she used less inhaler's once I stopped with the over kill of dusting, air sprays, etc....ya'll, back then, my house was so clean my kids socks looked new when it was time to replace them...and it was making my little ones sick. Sorry for the long ramble...maybe somebody can get something out of this. But that pendulum swings both ways , one extreme to the other is equally bad. That said staph is daily seen in ER's and we are one antibiotic away from no defense at all. People thinking they have a spider bite lately, about 85% are in fact staph, skin staph. So one might want to mull that over. Balance. I choose now to say if I get a sniffle that I'm simply working my immune system out and when they're gone I've gotten stronger. My syndrome wont go away but the other stuff does. Yep now I actually catch stuff..DOH. evie
