Guest guest
Howdy Tammy .. Sharon .. other good folks .. > Hi Butch, > > I recall you recently mentioning that you & your family inhale > Oregano daily & Alexander has not yet had a cold. It is not exactly daily .. but almost daily .. its not something we fear missing. Often Tanya just puts a few drops in a sauce pan of water and boils it .. my diffuser is broken. > Noah is 1 month younger than Alexander and unfortunately has had a > few colds, but we love your Oregano Vulgare & it definitely helps. No doubt in my mind that it helps .. it can kick a laundry list of Big Bad Bug Butts. > I'm curious about Alexander not being sick yet, though? He turned 3.5 years old on 5 September .. he has ill but one time .. maybe 6-7 months ago. It was for a day and a night. At night his temperature went up to 102 + and he was lethargic .. I had him sniff a cotton ball with Origanum often and Tanya kept some on the stove for a few hours. He slept and next morning he was back to normal .. that is the only time he has been ill. > My in-laws think I'm " overboard " when it comes to cleanliness > b/c I do what I can to reduce the risk of illness by making Noah > wash hands throughout the day as well as using anti-bacterial > wipes when soap & water are not available. (Of course, I also > love bleach! lol) I am lucky to not have in-laws in the immediate vicinity. ;-) Lemme say that I agree with you and with others who have said younguns should be exposed to some baddies .. just not all baddies! When we go shopping Alexander rides in the shopping cart and if the store does not have a person standing there with anti-baddies wipes to hand out .. Tanya uses one from her purse to wipe off the handles of the shopping cart. I believe that now is not the time to practice that exposure stuff. Tennessee has some swine flu now. The only other times we are concerned about him washing his hands is before and after meals .. and after using the toilet. All day he is out playing with dogs and frogs and bugs and anything else that is creeping or crawling around our place. Looking out my office window now I see him and Tanya outside .. he is on the ground with 7 little Chocolate Lab crappers crawling over him .. born 28 July they were. As for the bleach .. we use it to disinfect many things but not folks. ;-) > They say that he " needs to be exposed to sickness b/c it builds his > immunity & defends him from greater illness later in life " . They are not wrong .. but not totally right. Exposure to some things does more damage now than we can gain from increased immunity. For sure kids who live in a city and stay in the home most of the time are not going to be exposed to the same baddies as those in the country .. like Alexander is. In general .. cities suck .. personal opinion that is. ;-) But .. it is why I am no longer living in Turkey .. if Alexander had not been born I would probably have not left there. Raising a boy in a 5th floor apartment above a busy street was not something I wanted for him. > If you or someone else can share w/me your thoughts on this, I'd > love to hear different views. Reading the previous posts I see that you have received a bunch of replies. I totally agree with the Vit D thing .. kids need to be outside daily .. even in bad weather we can find a way to let them be exposed to indirect sunlight for a time. Also .. we still lean heavily on the Mediterranean Diet .. lots of fruits and vegetables and berries and nuts .. and Extra Virgin Olive Oil .. and Plain Yogurt .. and lots of raw garlic .. I am not at all concerned about those who do not like the odor. We live in the country anyway but we eat it almost daily and I am sure folks can smell it when we go to the County Seat .. Paris, TN. > Also, for the inhalation process, how is that most effective? > Guess you can just sniff directly out of the bottle? Hard to do that because Retail size bottles normally have reducers so its more difficult for the oil to volatize .. and Wholesale size bottles have openings that are too large to be safe. Don't get Origanum on your nose or on a mucus membrane .. it will sting and make you learn a new dance step. Use a cotton ball or cloth or diffuse it. > Best wishes, And to you and yours. Noah will do fine .. don't worry. > Tammy Tivis > www.ElementsBathandBody.com > Wholesale Soap Making & Toiletry Supplies Sharon asked: > I am curious did Alexander have the shots. The newborn shots??? No ma'am .. only those I approved of .. not the laundry list the medics recommend. And .. none of us have had a flu shot .. have no plans to get it. Guest guest
so, Butch, another question - which of the " baby " shots (and even the shots for the school age children) do you " approve " of? I have a grandson that just started school (got all his shots) and two infant grandsons - youngest is just 4 wks so hasn't started his shots yet and would like to prevent it if possible. May have a problem since his mother has to get flu/swine flu because she works in hospital lab. Guest guest
Hi Butch, Thanks for your response... always so thorough & helpful. > > >The only other times we are concerned about him washing his hands > is before and after meals .. and after using the toilet. Kids gotta be kids & Noah is ALL BOY! (I'm sure Alexander is, too!). We're fortunate to be rural as you are & have lots of room to explore & play. > >When we go shopping Alexander rides in the shopping cart and if the > store does not have a person standing there with anti-baddies wipes > to hand out .. Tennessee has some swine flu now. > Shopping cart handles are super icky places for us all & I wear gloves when I pump gasoline! The thought of who has touched those pumps before me & where their hands may have been completely grosses me out! lol People probably think I'm nuts when I whip out the gloves, but I have some boundaries that can't be crossed. > >As for the bleach .. we use it to disinfect many things but not > folks. ;-) > Agreed! lol > >Hard to do that because Retail size bottles normally have reducers > so its more difficult for the oil to volatize .. and Wholesale size > bottles have openings that are too large to be safe. But, I do swear by the stuff. Didn't realize that inhalation would be just as effective, so like the cotton ball or just the idea of steaming on the stovetop. I do that w/my other oils, so makes sense. Thanks again for your insight.
