As Butch noted, fennel tea will stimulate milk flow (and will also help to soothe a colicky baby as it passes through the breast millk). Basil is good for breastfeeding too - it stimulates milk flow, helps to prevent mastitis, and helps to prevent colic as well. Blessed thistle and fenugreek are also used. Guest guest
I am way behind on responding to messages. I want to thank everyone that answered my question on this. We found 2 different brands of tea to increase breast milk flow at Whole Foods (one is Yogi, I think) and my daughter likes this one best. It has the fennel and fenugreek along with other herbs. One question - should she use teas with just those ingredients? She has to return to work on 10/1 so she is trying to build up a supply. She only works 3 days a week so that helps a lot! She is not wanting to go to back to work but has to financially. She had been told she would probably never be able to have children so our little Connor is truly a blessing, but a complete surprise! Once again, thank you! Jan Gifford jangiff On Sep 10, 2009, at 7:06 PM, Jen Flanagan wrote: > The two herbs that have helped me the most, are fennel (like Butch > said!) > and fenugreek! Guest guest
The teas will definitely help. To have the best results she should drink 3-4 cups per day. Keep her fluids up as well. But another thing that will really help is to nurse/pump as often as possible! Supply and Demand and all There is a book by Susan Weed that is really good about childbirth and nursing years.. http://www.amazon.com/Wise-Woman-Herbal-Childbearing-Year/dp/0961462000/ref= sr_1_4?ie=UTF8 <http://www.amazon.com/Wise-Woman-Herbal-Childbearing-Year/dp/0961462000/ref =sr_1_4?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1253512295 & sr=8-4> & s=books & qid=1253512295 & sr=8-4 She goes over herbs and such for breastfeeding. Really GOOD read! Hugs ? Jen
