Hi Kathleen,

Since this post did not get to the list (seems to happen all the time

lately), I've now had time to look in several field guides and I believe I've

identified it with certainty. A question to be sure. Are the stems sticky?

It appears to be Desert Trumpet (Latin: Ipomopsis aggregeta from the Phlox

family) grows 1-3 ft. pointed petals/trumpet flowers in clusters, pinnate

leaves. Blooms June through September. Grows in Great Basin and adjacent

mountains to west in WA. Found in Peterson's Pacific States Wildflowers Field

Guide. Here's a pic - http://tinyurl.com/kohph8

Commonly called Scarlet Gilia in the Southwest, here's more info and pics from

NM, CO and UT. http://tinyurl.com/mtpcl2

This was fun; nothing like a good old plant identification mystery. :-)
