My Mother had Macular but until she died at 92 she could read a little with the help of a magnifying glass. My father also had it and really did not know how bad it was until he had a cateract operation. A lot depends on how severe it is and how fast it progresses. My husband has it and foolishly without any sort of consultation had Laser Surgery on that eye and now has a permanent black spot in his left eye.
