Catalytic Diffusers

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me about catalytic diffusers and if they

actually use essential oils and what else?

We get inquiries fairly often asking about them, a common brand is a Lampe

Burger.

I can't seem to find any information as to what the fuel is that supposedly is

'cleaning the air'? This is what is puzzling to me.

If it is burning a petroleum product - although there is no flame - there is

heat being produced - so something is still burning - How can it be 'cleaning'

the air?

Why use something hot that is 'burning without a flame' to 'clean' the air?

Won't diffusing with a fan diffuser or atomizer and using plain essential oils

help to clean the air just fine, if not better?

We have folks that want recipes to make the 'oil blend' using essential oils and

of course - we haven't a clue where to look.

From what I understand, it, the Lampe Burger style diffuser was used in the

1800's in hospitals and infirmaries to 'clean' the air of nasty odors. And

most likely were used into the early 1900's too, but I'm sure that even the heat

from the Catalytic burner could cause a fire or two or even burns, and so were

discontinued as unsafe to use.

Any information - if anyone can provide anything it would be greatly

appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Penny
