Guest guest
I normally use Smirnoff Blue label too, but have used 80 proof also. I try to choose a high quality name and grain instead of potato as I am allergic to night shade and potatoes fall into that category. I have never had a problem, sometimes I get cloudy floating stuff but I think it comes from the impurities of the echinacea root. Also a sludge can settle on the bottom after it cures. I pour through a very fine sieve, let it sit 24hrs, then syringe off the liquid and put it through the sieve again. You will still get some settling but when it gets near the bottom I just either dump it or redo the above directions. Happy Tincturing. ;-) Carol I have used 80 proof vodka when I cannot get Smirnoff Blue Label at 100proof. My tinctures last forever, don't worry.
