Guest guest
I tried making some lip balm over the holidays using coconut oil, beeswax, almond oil, lanolin, vitamin E jojoba and honey and had two problems that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. My family liked it except that it did not last very long on the lips - it felt great - it just absorbed much quicker than lip balm usually does. Any ideas on what to add/subtract/increase/decrease in it to make it longer lasting? And second, they loved the idea of the honey, but I couldn't get the honey to stay mixed - it sunk to the bottom as the balm cooled. Thanks very much for any ideas. Guest guest
Hi Nan The thing to do is to increase your beeswax ratio. But add too much and your lipbalm will get an unappealing hard waxy consistency. As for honey, it will separate out from the oil-based ingredients because it is essentially a water-based substance. You could try using some sort of emulsifier, but then you have the issue of microbial growth because of the water content, I would think. Any others have experience with this?  Patty Ganache for Lips http://www.ganacheforlips.com ________________________________ Nan <harpandheart Sat, January 16, 2010 12:23:31 PM long lasting lip balm  I tried making some lip balm over the holidays using coconut oil, beeswax, almond oil, lanolin, vitamin E jojoba and honey and had two problems that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.
