Guest guest
Hi all~ Ive read thru all the old emails on infusions and there really wasnt much on infusing Vanilla.....I have a few organic beans and would like to infuse them in coconut oil, but was wondering how much people use to make a strong scented oil.....I read that someone put about 50 grams per 40 oz of oil, but then the FINAL results werent posted..... Someone also asked if the vanilla comes thru in cold processed soap, but that wasnt addressed either-lol So if we have any vanilla " experts " Id love to hear your thoughts! I have about 5 tahitian and 5 Bourbon beans...... Thanks Caterina
Guest guest
Caterina, This has been tried by soaopmakers in the UK and it doesn't work, too bad, for it seems like a very good idea. Very little, if no, scent came thru in the final CP soap. But you can use your vanilla beans to make your own vanilla extract. Or maybe chop them up real small and stir into a CP soap for texture, would that work? Good Luck, Karen in France EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me
Guest guest
I use vanilla beans and unfortunately I've yet to have them scent cp soap. I'll rebatch soap and either cook in the ground beans or make a very concentrated tea and add a couple drops of patchouli and few drops of a sweet amber . I do have a jar that all left over ground beans are added to. I used fractionated coconut oil and another jar with vanilla extract that I 'charge' with vanilla. It takes a lot of vanilla and a very long time. I do have a friend who uses her coffee carafe and hot plate for about 5 hours to do hers. She will let that sit for some time once its cooled and jarred and then strain, add more fresh beans and heat again. I save my vanilla and will often add it to vanilla 5th dark or a highly scented vanilla eo blend but other than body oils, perfumes, MP or butters if you dont mind a dark butter it is quite nice. You might contact Margaret at Mohea Beauty LLC. She has a tahitian vanilla whipped butter I've been eying a lot lately LOL....she makes lovely butters and soaps, all organic. She would best be one to tell you how to do this as her butter is nice and white and i know she uses real vanilla. Hope that helps. Also, I use a goats milk soap paste I'll cook with vanilla beans and its very nice. Dark and thick like malt! But oh so indulgent! evie
Guest guest
Hi Evie... Thanks for the reply! what do you mean by soap paste? Are you referring to liquid soap and then you cook the vanilla beans in with the soap  paste? So do you use milk as the liquid in it instead of water? Then you have to add a preservative? Ive tried Margarets soap and creams and i will agree- her creams are the BOMB!....I forgot she knows how to infuse vanilla really well....... caterina ________________________________ You might contact Margaret at Mohea Beauty LLC. Guest guest
I purchase a liquid soap base and it comes as a paste and is Goats milk. You have to dilute this with water but I prefer to boil a blend of botanicals known for sheen and hair strength and the tea is heavily loaded with ground vanilla beans. it adds a sweetness to the goats milk that is not really a scent but nice....and then I'll add in an eo blend called Vanilla 5th Dark , patchouli and it is just wonderful. Since its brown I think I may buy opaque bottles . I do have a clear paste I'm fixing to do and hopefully I can get the botanicals I need from The Herbarie.....I forgot I had to buy stuff today so It will have to wait LOL......I'm VERY discipliined with my money. I do not order unless I made a sale. Man, when did groceries get so high???? I'm suffereing from Mohea withdrawal LOL. I'm tempted to go and buy bars LOL! evie caty lein <caty_lein Wed, January 27, 2010 4:30:46 PM Re: Infusing Vanilla Beans % Hi Evie... Thanks for the reply! what do you mean by soap paste?
