Guest guest
Great post Cindy. Although silver has its place (in my case a bracelet on my wrist lol) I do think we tend to over use it in the natural health industry. There are also cases of people who have taken so much silver they turn blue.......forever. We have two people in my town who are blue and one's family actually refer's to her as 'Aunt Blue'. Silver used to be used frequently generations ago and this was a common side effect and helped also to stop the usage as a common treatment doctors used . For the record I am not anti silver but I have good reason to be concerned. When colloidal minerals came out there were two problems. The usual claims made that virtually ALL new supplements in the form of juices, herbs etc as panacea's for ALL illness's to include terminal cancer were grossly and irresponsibly advertised and promised and there were NO instances of complete and unbiased information on materials regarding all ingredients included in the blend , especially the 'trace' minerals being potentially harmful. Trace minerals are 'trace' minerals for a reason and many are a danger to humans, animals and the planet when it ultimately builds up at the end point of disposal. No one addressed the fact that many of these dangerous heavy metals are responsible for many illnesses and deaths. If you read the labels you saw lead, mercury, tin, nickle , cadmium, copper, (and many more I've forgotten off the top of my head) . We have been over exposed to many of these heavy metals with harmful results. A lot of us here are of the 'lead paint chip' generation . When we were kids besides over exposure to asbestos we ate paint chips as tiny ones. Coral Calcium is another product and alleged pancea for all that ails us and I called every company to include the company I worked for to inquire about this product and asked if heavy metals or anything harmful was in this blend and all of them said that given coral is naturally occurring it also naturally absorbs what is in the waters it grows in and therefore YES, it did indeed have trace amounts of heavy metals. We've been mislead to believe if its liquid its absorbed better, faster and with quicker posivitive results. Until the next new panacea comes along and then the current fad cure all products seem to go by the way side which = MONEY MOTIVATED and to me that also equals predatory misrepresentation of 'dietary' supplements as well as very poor scientific studies. Damage due to over exposure of heavy metals are lifetime . There is NO way to go in and remove the metals we ingest once we've reached the point of 'too much' although some say apple pectin will remove heavy metals. I dont know. Dolomite was another. contaminated by lead. All that said and I know I've said too darned much, Silver has a place, a time for use but not in everything. I do believe it is beneficial for certain circumstances but not as a daily application or ingestion. Then consider the over mining, natural pollution and man made pollution and you have a situation scarier than paraben on your hands. Triclosan is an issue we need to 'fix' as it is not biodegradable and years from now all of what was used will be as potent as it was when it was used and that is going to come back and bite future generations. I've had witness people with terminal illnesses buy out the store from shark cartilage to juices to colloidal silver, herbs and vitamins in sheer terror and I find the practice heartbreaking and parasitic just to make major bucks. If companies cared they would make GOOD products affordable for those who would like to improve or use preventative care AND help green up the planet but check the prices of 'natural' in supplements to cosmetics or products that are free of an ingredient and hiked in price common sense would be to do your research before you buy into the tabloid claims that can be dangerous. Much of this is unregulated and the FDA and other govt. agencies have been trying to find a way to put a halt to our 'freedom' to choose . I signed petitions for years to keep it so that we could remain free to choose what we find is good for ourselves but thanks to the practices I mentioned and its after effects , the lack of research by the consumer, the staggering amount of money to be made by claims and now SOME multi level marketing companies make lots of money and Silver products are still popular, I am now beginning to see why it may be necessary for regulation. I dont like the idea but for 20 years I've seen a lot on both sides of the issue .. Regulation of herbs, supplements , ingredient usage should at least be insitituted to create a standardized product so we know the products we are creating have the proper amount of active components , better information on the percentages and removal of the compounds in some oils and herbs and additives that are contraindicated in some cases where our health is concerned. Silver is a terrific product when properly used. I have some my self but we need to continue to check our product ingredients and keep abreast of any issues concerning our product ingredients and be responsible. This is applicable to all of us. If any one of us feels we are the exception then we have another issue on our hands and yet another reason for regulation. I dont want to loose my freedom to purchase silver but if people dont wise up we may very well be saying more 'good byes' to the list of products we are now having to give up already. Sure, pharmaceutical companies have always been wanting a piece of the pie but its gotten so that now some natural products are so expensive a co-pay from an insurance company would be hugely more cost effective. k. I hope I didnt tread on toes and I'm aware that I am more than wordy. This is a passion for me and I value what we all do very much and resent the coming changes just as much as anyone but I can sure see why . Bottom line people want to live in complete indulgence of fast food, too much sun, too much smoke etc and we want a cream to take away the years of abuse , an herb to cure all that ails us and an oil or salve to ''fix it' and to some extent we need those . What we've done to ourselves however hits us about 40 and at 50 we want a 'do over' in a supplement. I do applaud those of you who did practice prevention and were wise when younger and still so....you were way ahead of me! evie cindyjones1 <cindyjones1 Wed, February 10, 2010 10:44:34 AM Re: Butters and preservative I think its more important to use something safe rather than something natural. Tinosan is a preservative and it is silver. however, silver is a heavy metal just like mercury. It is not metabolized by the body at all and builds up not only in our body but in the environment too. So far there is not much evidence that it is harmful, but we didn't know that mercury was harmful until Mimamata Bay incidence either. when you are talking about butters though what you want is an antioxidant. This is different than an antimicrobial, both are loosely referred to as 'preservatives' but are for very different purposes. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and can help protect your oils from going rancid.
