Guest guest
Hi All, I've been making Neck bags - well actually we call them Aroma Pillows for a few years. We use a blend of Rice, Flax seeds, lavender buds and a fiber fixative that helps to hold the essential oils for a bit longer than just the buds alone. Rice and Flax seeds will not allow penetration of their our shells to absorb the essential oils and just putting more lavender EO on the buds won't last at all. Remember the fact that all essential oils are volatile they will eventually all evaporate into the air. Adding heat makes it happen even faster. But you can't add a lot of EO's to the Neck bags or pillows - as once it is heated it can become overwhelming. The Fiber fix can be orris root powder or something that looks like ground up corn cobs (but they are not as there is not a hint of corn smell). The ones we sell we call Fiber Bits. They do hold essential oils for quite a bit longer than other products we have used. But they won't hold them forever due to the nature of essential oils. Now How to Heat without a Microwave. Simply wrap a damp towel around the bag/pillow and place in a very low temp oven (less then 200 degrees) and heat for 10-15 minutes. The towel can be fairly damp but don't make it soaking wet. Be careful removing it from the oven as the damp towel can and will produce steam. Sit back and enjoy. You might have to wrap the neck bag/pillow in a dry towel if it has become too warm. Remember too these bags/pillows are great when cooled down in the freezer too. I know of a few menopausal women that enjoy the cool feeling when those 'hot flashes' happen! Or you have a headache and something cool would feel better. We keep one in the freezer and one for us in the microwave! Hope this helps all that are being creative - or don't have a microwave. ;-) Penny Your One Stop Aromatherapy Shop! Lavender EO relaxes your nerves, too. No need to add essential > oil to the wrap.
