Guest guest
Hi: I really enjoyed reading your post on this topic. It seems to me that we Americans are already spending billions on health insurance and health care, but the way the system is set up, too much of the money is going to make certain rich folks richer while millions of people go without care. I know people who would willingly buy health insurance if they got what they paid for without the rates going up like a house on fire. I was on a plan for small business owners once, and I experienced three rate increases in one year. By the third rate increase, it was double the original rate - and I did not use the plan once because I never met my deductible! It seems to me that if we all pitched in and the big insurance execs and shareholders weren't so greedy, there would be enough to go around, and if there were any taxes involved, they would be a lot less noticeable than the exorbitant rates we are already paying. Like you said, we'll see. Susan , Butch Owen <butchowen wrote: > > Howdy y'all, > > Thoughts of the list moderators below. Guest guest
Hi Butch and All, Wow, Butch love your information. The Health Care situation in this country has so many aspects that need attention. Although this bill may be focusing on making health care affordable for those that can't, there is SO MUCH more that needs addressing. Abuse by/of Insurance and Drug companies, abuse by/of doctors and other health care agencies. The list is endless. Not to mention all the litigations that go on. And abuse by patients too. Personally - I've had insurance coverage all my life - to varying degrees. I've had 100% - no out of pocket everything paid for insurance, I've had medical assistance (for our kids back 30 plus years ago), I've had Co pay type insurances (mostly). And currently have a high detuctable Major medical insurance. But being raised believing in Prevention is the best medicine or using natural methods I have rarily had to use conventional medicine except for the necessities (like delivering babies or emergency surgery for appendectomy). We have used health care sparingly. But I know many that have abused the health care systems. I'm not talking just patients but doctors, drug companies, insurance companies etc. Will this Health Care Reform fix all the problems? Most likely not. BUT at least someone is attempting to do something. Will I be able to afford other insurance that might cover health problems as I get older? Hope so, but the cost of my Major Medical has risen over $100.00 a month in just the past 2 years. Will this Healthcare Reform stop this continual price raising? Right now even the Major Medical with the $10,000.00 deductible costs me alone over $250.00 a month, but thankfully I'm fairly healthy and hope to be for years to come. (My husband costs another $200.00/month). All I know is there has to be a better, more fair way to provide health care for all US Citizens. Where should it start? Someplace - like maybe folks taking more responibility for their own health - and prevention. Sorry, won't go there as this is way too big, too big for most of us. All I want is for health care to be available - for when we need it, be affordable and not abused or abusive. Be fair for everyone - rich and poor. AND for us to be able to make OUR OWN choices for our own health care. In the meantime - Prevention is still the BEST Medicine. (Maybe that will be part of this reform - we can hope). Lets HOPE (gotta have this) that this will happen in our life time and in time for the future generations.
