Howdy Lisa .. other good folks ..

My opinion is that you and anyone else who thinks like you do should not be

required to purchase Health Insurance .. the opportunity is there .. but its

your choice. If you have no mortgage on your home you are not required to

have home insurance .. there is no difference. The risk is yours and if you

choose wrong the consequences should be yours .. alone. Neither the

government nor your neighbors should feel morally, legally or otherwise

responsible for the health of your family .. or to house your family. My

opinion is not a cold hearted one .. its pure logic.

I have good coverage on my home but it was just last week that I purchased

earthquake coverage. We haven't had a major quake here in 200 years but we

are close to the New Madrid Fault. The choice to purchase or not purchase

was mine. We are in Tornado Alley .. and though my home insurance covers

this .. it does not protect my family from personal harm. So .. I am now in

the process of putting together the cash to have an underground shelter

placed under the concrete floor in my garage. This is my choice .. the

health and welfare of my family is my choice. If for any reason .. choice

or lack of funds .. I don't have earthquake coverage and/or an underground

shelter .. would anyone even consider insisting that the government or my

neighbors had a moral or legal obligation to take care of us in the event of

a disaster? I think not. I also have Health Coverage for my family ..

and I think the above argument applies as well to Health Insurance ..

with an exception.

That exception is a person wants Health Insurance for their family but is

legitimately unable to purchase it due to no fault of their own. These

people should be helped until they can help them self.

If another person does not want Health insurance for their family and this

is due to a decision on their part .. or wants it but can not purchase it

due to negligence or irresponsibility .. or frivolous spending habits .. or

drug or alcohol addiction .. or any other negative reason we could dream up

... I am violently opposed to my tax dollars covering that person!

Here are but two of many examples .. I have a relative who is a loser

married to a loser .. they both lost more than one job that gave them

coverage due to his insubordination and her truancy. They have jobs now

but no coverage. She is 100+ pounds overweight so there are limits to what

she can do .. her salary is small. He is a jack of all trades and master

of none .. he too is paid little. They are on Medicaid and draw food

stamps .. and for things Medicaid won't pay they ensure that their health

problems occur after duty hours so they can be treated free at a

Hospital Emergency Room. On weekends they hit the Flea Markets and yard

sales .. and they themselves have a couple of yard sales each month where

they sell items for a profit. This is obviously unreported .. untaxed ..

income. They claim that they can not afford to purchase any Health

coverage. But .. they are not destitute. Last Christmas she bought him a

$300 + tool set and he bought her a $2,000 + wide screen TV. They own

hundreds of DVDs. I am violently opposed to my tax dollars covering this

family!

Another example is in my old home town in Kentucky. There is a man there

who has never had a full time job but lives better than some who have never

been without a full time job. I went to school with this fool until he

quit in the 8th grade .. they let him quit because they could not make him

stay in the school and when he was there he was a disruption. He is

ignorant, trashy, foolish and irresponsible and draws whatever types of

welfare the State of Kentucky and/or the Federal Government has available.

He can be found at one of the local beer joints on any given day .. smoking

and joking and drinking beer and feeding quarters into the poker machines.

I am violently opposed to my tax dollars covering this man. In fact .. I

am opposed to this man breathing the air that should be reserved for piss

ants.

There is not one person on this News Group who can not provide at least one

example similar to those I just gave.

There are few rational people who would object to aid for those who deserve

it .. but there are far too many irrational people who believe that

distribution of risk and wealth and assets is Justice regardless of the

conditions. There are two schools of thought that are extremes .. most of

us accept neither of these extremes and know that we will never see a

situation where one of those extremes .. the one where everyone should sink

or swim on their own .. will become law. We might well be forced to accept

that other extreme .. that folks should be as equal as possible regardless

of whether they deserve it or not. When we hear terms like " Social

Justice " we must fear whatever we hear after that.

> Yes, my son has been in the hospital, and yes it was expensive, but no more

> expensive than insurance would've been.

>

In many cases this will be true. And the proposals of the new Health Care

Bill will NOT ensure than anyone who thinks as you do will purchase Health

Insurance .. this is clearly understood by those who passed the Bill .. its

a part of the spin and subterfuge. The penalties for not purchasing

insurance will be FAR less than the cost of insurance. IF LATER .. a

person without insurance who has been betting they would not become ill ..

loses the bet and does become ill .. they can then obtain insurance after

the fact .. and they can NOT be refused. This is a bit like purchasing

life insurance on your husband after he has been diagnosed with a terminal

illness .. or maybe even the day after he dies. Those penalties that will

be paid in for not purchasing insurance are unto themselves a form of

insurance .. the difference is .. the money will not be paid to an insurance

company .. it will be paid to the government and enforcement will be the

responsibility of the 16,000 + new IRS agents the government will hire to do

this. Expansion of government is a goal of certain politicians.

> I also don't agree with car insurance or any other insurance...I believe

> it's my own responsibility to pay if something happens, not an insurance

> company, and certainly not the government's responsibility to force me to

> waste my money on something I strongly don't believe in.

>

I agree .. as far as Comprehensive coverage is concerned. There are no

requirements to purchase Comprehensive. But as for Liability .. this is an

area where I believe Government must step in .. State Government .. not

Federal. It is your responsibility to cover damage to your car if you have

no insurance .. but who covers me when you hit me if you have no insurance?

Then the options are for me to either not be paid .. or my insurance to pay

... or for the government to pay and if the government pays it means that my

neighbors and fellow citizens are paying because government does not earn

money .. it takes it from us .. government is not a producer of wealth .. it

is a consumer of wealth.

Liability Coverage, No Fault Coverage and/or Uninsured Motorist Coverage are

all State Requirements .. as it should be. The Feds should stay out of

this. If we are not happy with how our State government functions or

satisfied with the decisions of our State Legislature and/or Governor ..

down to even our County or City elected officials .. we can vote against

them. Not the case when the Federal Government is involved .. a Senator

from Maine might propose a bill that affects folks in 50 States .. and our

State Senators might vote against it .. but we are still going to have that

Bill crammed down our throats!

I do not believe that the Health Insurance Mandate that has been crammed

down our throats can NOT pass the smell test if it makes it to the Supreme

Court. We will see.

Y'all keep smiling. :-)

PS: It is not just the cost of Health Care that has become unsustainable ..

the cost of Government has become unsustainable .. more on that later.
