Guest guest
Howdy y'all, Good it is to see posts from folks who have not previously posted on this subject. With as many members as we have there are obviously hundreds of other good folks with opinions worth hearing. Also it would be nice if more folks were to participate in the Poll posted on the Group. In truth, many Americans (to include some in Congress and the White House) do not see the big picture when viewing government services. This lack of understanding is due in part to efforts by elected officials trying to establish as many programs as they can to stroke their constituents .. they want to please everybody. When they do this, their constituents assume that the new programs are rights rather than privileges. Once you give folks something .. its not easy to take it away. And once you give folks something .. though it makes them smile when its given .. in time they become accustomed to having it .. are no longer satisfied with that benefit ... and demand more. There is a logical limit to how much any government can provide and that limit is normally determined by how much the government can get from the citizens. There is obviously a lot of fraud and waste in any government program .. and it is as difficult to distinguish between valid and frivolous services to the public as it is to separate the white from the black in chicken manure. From time to time state governments are required to make these difficult choices and regardless of how they decide there will be many who are not satisfied because they have become accustomed to receipt of privileges and assume they are rights. The closer we are to the problem .. that is, when such decisions directly affect us and ours .. the more difficult it is to see the big picture. This is unfortunate but it is a normal reaction. There are many things that can be done to reduce government spending .. and we are going to see some of these ideas soon .. we must see them. We can bet our bottom dollar that when this happens, some folks will see this or that change as being not in their best interests .. and they will be correct. As I wrote above, one of the things that gets us into debt is politicians trying to please everybody .. its not possible to please everybody. Y'all have a nice day .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch
