Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I think the word " socialized " upsets some people because " socialized " means more government involvement and less individual responsibility-two things this country does NOT need more of. Lack of healthcare reform is not due to the commie fearing, flag waving, patriotic dumb asses. I'm a flag waving patriot (although not a commie fearing dumb ass) and I believe in reform for the healthcare industry but real reform would have come from a true overhaul of the many broken parts in the current system, including tort reform. We are not yet getting that here because the politicians have their own agendas at hand, and that is never what creates true reform. I'd bet that the other countries being referred to that have socialized medicine that works well is NOT similar to what our government is trying to pass off as healthcare reform on us and as such, the people here have the right to be concerned about our " socialized medicine " because it will not create true, necessary reform of the industry nor will it bring the real universal healthcare this country has been trying to create for years. People need to understand that just because some, individuals and those in government, are against THIS bill does not mean they are against true reform. This just ain't it. Now I'll wait for my hand slapping. Susan , Kathleen Petrides <Beadhussy wrote: > > I would like a pat on the back for having stayed out of this discussion for > as long as I have. Guest guest
Hey Susan I get that we don't want socialized medicine. What I don't get is that when the word is even mentioned, there are a lot of people who just start foaming at the mouth and don't even listen to what is being said. No one is advocating socialized medicine, just talking about what has worked and not worked in other countries, but the " dumb asses " can't hear past the one word. I agree, there are too many agendas out there for real reform to take place. It's a sin and a shame that this country doesn't have some system of health care that is accessible to everyone, especially those that need it most. Unfortunately, as has been mentioned by everyone, the politicians have no real desire to even try to fix things because it would cost them their job. Health care while desperately needed, is needed by the wrong people. People with little or no money, people with no influence, the average joe on the street. If, however, the shoe was on the other foot and it was people in power or people with money who needed it done, it would QUICKLY become an issue that would force real change. Until then, all we the people are going to get is something that we don't want, will not do much good for we the people and will not affect the bottom dollar of those who don't care about the little we the people, at least not until election time, by which time they hope this issue will have been swept under the carpet by something " more important " . So, when all is said and done and signed, sealed and delivered, it will be too little, too late and too expensive for the very little it does. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen: This is the other Susan. I just wanted to comment that the term socialized medicine was coined to cause fear. We Americans have been raised since our childhoods to believe that socialism is a very scary thing. So calling it socialized medicine sounds very scary and negative. And yet we have Medicaid. Medicaid works quite well and very few people wish to get rid of it regardless of their political belief. One could easily call Medicaid socialized medicine. It's all in the spin. We don't privatize our military. I don't think we should ever privatize Social Security - the economic crisis is an example of why that's a bad idea. And yet, we don't call Social Security a socialized retirement benefit, and we don't call our military socialized defense. Guest guest
hey Other Susan. Yeah I remember. McCarthyism still runs rampant in this country. Mention Socialism and too many folk jump straight to communism. Oh, just in case, cuz people can't see where I am or might not know, I am an American. Father was in the air force, so as a kid traveled a bit even outside the country. Then when I became an adult, I married a Finn and spent too many years in stockholm sweden and there after another 6 plus years in England after marrying a brit. Which means, I've a different perspective from the mainstream American who never leaves the US except to POSSIBLY visit Mexico or Canada. Doesn't mean my perspective isn't full of crap, but it can mean that I have a wider view. And by the way, Sweden is a socialist country... so I've seen the good and bad of socialism. It's not the big bad scary that so many think it is, on the other hand, if I thought it was all that wonderful... I wouldn't be back in the Good Ole and fiercely glad of it. ;-) K -- Kathleen Petrides Bead Hussy http://www.BeadHussy.com
