Pam in order to learn about herbs you have to study herbalist classes. Dr

I am having a hard time believing that all of the Aromatherapists on

this site don't know of one single reputable online school to receive

training and credentials from??

Can somebody help me?

As you all know, doing a web search returns many options, none of which

I have ever heard of nor have experience with, so I am having a very

hard time weeding out the duds.

Thanks!

Chris,

I don’t know “Dr. Christopher†but I’ll try to help answer your

questions –

M.H. most like means: Master Herbalist. Question is, who gave him that

designation? There are no “official†sources of such a designation. Various

“licensing†groups and “schools†bestow that designation on those who go

through their program. After much searching, the one source that seems reputable

is The American Herbalist Guild (http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/).

ND: Naturopathic Doctor. I’d want to know from where he received his

education.

As you have seen, a google search will land you thousands of hits whether

searching for “herbology†“herbalism†or “aromatherapyâ€. All are

more than happy to take several thousand of your dollars and give you a

“certificationâ€. That certification doesn’t mean ditty squat as the

bestowers of the certification have no standard to base their “schoolâ€.

Just my 2cents worth…

Very interesting.

Can you please elaborate on the title of " Dr " . Dr in what? Field? Institution

that awarded this degree/title?

What does M.H. and N.D. stand for as mentioned on the WEB site?

Hi Kathi,

I've asked similar questions on both aromatherapy lists and herbalist lists.

I've googled for hours. The truth is, no one is answering your question

because there are no " reputable " schools. There are plenty who will give you

credentials, for a price. I've yet to find one who will even give you a

decent idea with their " training " consists of prior to forking out the

money. That tells me they aren't legit. There are no national standards.

There is no national standards board. Being a " certified " aromatherapist or

herbalist doesn't mean a thing other than you had the money to pay for the

piece of paper that says you are.

Me? I'm going rogue. I have a base upon which to build from my studies at

Univ of Bridgeport. I'll finish my education on my own.

Hi Kathi.....

One thing you should be aware of Kathi...

In the US there is no standard set of credentials for what an

Aromatherapist is...

Technically....the only cert or whatever a school can award is a

certification that someone attended the school, passed their exams, etc....

So...if someone is claiming Certified Aromatherapist in the US, all that

means is they went to some school...

I'm sure there are good schools out there, but I cannot advise you there...

In my sig lines I mention A.J.P. (GIA)...That is a completion of a

program of the GIA that I did....Stands for Accredited Jewelry

Professional..It means I know what the hell I am selling/talking about

very fundamentally when it comes to jewelry and gems...

The GIA are the folks that invented the 4C's when it comes to

diamondspeak...The GIA has no licensing powers related to Gov't

standards and such...However, it is recognized throughout the

gem/jewelry industry, and has been such for quite a while...

By completing that program, I am entitled to use those letters with my

name...And GIA has recognition, as I said...

That's the kind of thing you are pursuing...
