Guest guest
Hi Kathi Many of the AT schools that are around in the US are designed to prepare you to take the accreditation test (separate agent, and cost to do) if you pass that test you are able to use RA. Some would critic that RA means anything at all. I was surprised to see in the last year the degree that there is so much hostile infighting in the industry and bitterness and even hatred toward various persons/texts/schools/associations. Schools are a form of education, that some people prefer for one reason or another, one is it is formatted curriculum to hopefully cover the base knowledge needed in the field of interest, and laid out in progressive order (curriculum). Self education will always remain the key in any event, to your total understanding and real usefulness IMHO. Also amass a great reference library. And there are very respectable persons in the herbal field that would say that that is the way to go anyway with no formal training. David Winston has a course that i would have liked to have known about sooner http://www.herbalstudies.org/ . And Michael Moore also has an interesting/valuable course as well http://www.all-natural.com/herbindx.html , there are others as well, that i would not say are a waste on money particularly. And i have actually enjoyed/found useful the AT course work from, places/schools and texts that are criticized by afore mentioned body politics. And know from real practical experience that the baby was thrown out with the bath water, in various places, for probably less than altruistic motivations. But i have also done tons more independent study, and value that immensely. Continued daily study also needed IMHO. It depends on what you want to accomplish. And what is important to you. There are associations in both fields that work to some useful end, however imperfect i am sure that they are, and you can start inquiry there as well, there was allot of discussion/muckraking on the AT stuff on the ATFE group, you can join that group and search past messages, for that content as it need not be repeated here. enjoy the journey nova

I believe both of those are accredited or not, depending upon the State in which you are in...State Licensed or sometimes not... In regards the geology....I was trying to self teach, and was getting nowhere...So, I took GIA's course to get the fundamentals layed out in a sensible fashion...I'm not really a jeweler by trade, or to make a living.......I got into gemstones, and sooner or later you find you have to do something with the things if you want to share their beauty...so, jewelry.... The essences will do that to you too.....<G>....! -- Gary W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P.
