Guest guest
Plain old vinegar. Apple cider vinegar if you want to get fancy. Wipe everything down with that. the vinegar smells dissapates eventually. Put half a cup in your wash and all perspiration and urine smells disappear. My cat peed on someone's hair scrunchie (ha ha) and I just washed it out under the faucet with a little vinegar and dish soap. No smell. ________________________________ " " Sat, April 17, 2010 5:33:17 AM Digest Number 4884 There are 8 messages in this issue. Topics in this digest: 1a. Believe me, in that it will absorb lots of unsavory odors in the bathroom. Just have to change it periodically. Also, baking soda could be put on the carpeting itself and allowed to sit for a week or so and then vacuumed up. Then like the box, spread some more baking soda on the carpet again. BTW, while this might not be popular on this group. I have found that scents of any kind, only mask the smell for awhile. The baking soda will absorb them. The good thing about the boxed baking soda. It can be poured down the sink drain and continue to de-scent the room. We have a client that runs a Memory care facility with several residents. Most are very good and use the bathroom/toilets as they should. Unfortunately there is one resident that has decided to use the clothes closet as her place to relieve herself. Although they do the mandatory cleaning and sanitation, because of repeated incidents the area/room has a lingering urine odor. The client is going to attempt to place a 'comode' in the closet in hopes they won't need to continue to clean the carpeting etc. But in the meantime they are still dealing with the odor. We explained that essential oils can help to a certain extent but we would see if anyone had any 'miracle deodorizing' essential oil blend that may work for this situation. Al knows from being a custodian for years there is more to the smell of urine removal than just trying to 'cover' it up with scenting. We are trying to find a safe and effective enzymatic action cleaner for her use but anyone that knows of something effective - well we would greatly appreciate it if you can share. Re: Help with Urine Odors Posted by: " Beveggie " beveg86 beveg86 Fri Apr 16, 2010 9:02 am ((PDT)) I have an elder dog with kidney/bladder issues as well as a 3yo son that refuses to potty train and have been struggling with urine & fecal smells throughout my home. I keep a spray bottle on hand that is 1/2 distilled white vinegar, 1/2 distilled water and several drops of essential oils (prefer lavendar and tea tree since both are also antibacterial). I mop up the offending puddle, spray the area generously with my custom blend and lay a towel over it until it dries. So far, the only one to re-wet the same spot has been my 3 year old and that's simply due to stubborness. vinegar neutralizes the urine.
