Guest guest
Re: Aspirin and breastfeeding. From memory Aspirin is thought to be a possible causative factor of Reyes syndrome, however some sources say this is not conclusive. The actual incidence is something like 1 in 1 million cases. Infrequent doses of aspirin are considered " safe " in breastfeeding. Whether or not maintenance doses of aspirin are considered safe depends on the source, some say its OK if the dose is not a high end dose, and others say no. Does the mother have to take the aspirin for her own health due to the clotting disorder? If she was prescribed it (and heparin) to aid in the prevention of miscarriage, then one would think that she could possibly discontinue its use during breastfeeding. I havent had a chance to have a look at the links re: her condition yet, but from memory, some women who have similiar disorders are unaware of it until undergoing specialist investigation for recurrent miscarriages. Heparin is not secreted in breastmilk, so is it possible for the mother to discontinue aspirin and keep taking the heparin? Regards, Lea.
