Guest guest
There are many fascinating stories about the use of honey as a wound dressing. There's a book called " Honey, Mud & Maggots " that talks about the use of these (and other) folk remedies by allopathic medicine. It's fun reading if you're interested. I think it's interesting that the article talks about silver as though it's something negative or has the same status as antibiotics, because it doesn't. Just like honey, silver has only just begun to re-emerge as an alternative to the use of highly toxic antibiotics (aka: colloidal silver). Robert Becker talks about his controversial use of silver in his book " The Body Electric " , which is/was required reading in a few acupuncture schools. Bob Beck has published similar alternative uses of silver & micro-current for all sorts of problems. The guy's a bit odd but has some interesting data. Another much simpler mechanism of action, than its breakdown into hydrogen peroxide, is because honey is a very hydrophilic molecule. Meaning that it draws water towards it and away from a wound. As it draws out extracellular fluid, it creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria & viruses, so that the body cleans itself, rather than killing microbes. So it's a functonal antibiotic because it changes the environment, rather than trying to manipulate/kill the pathogen. I'm not saying that the hydrogen peroxide pathway isnt legitimate, because it probably is. But sometimes, I think the lab techies make things alot more complicated than they need to. cheers....
