Guest guest
Hi All, My sister was just diagnosed with Haradas Syndrome today. From what little the retina specialist was able to tell her, it's has no known cause. It affects young adults, causing severe inflammation either inside the eye, behind the eye, or around the eye. In her case, the inflammation is behind the eye and fluid is accumulating behind the eye causing partial detachment of her retinas. According to this specialist, the only known treatment is massive doses of prednisone for 2-3 years! If the prednisone is terminated prematurely, the syndrome can return, but if taken long enough, the condition is " cured " . She first noticed redness, pain, and photosensitivity last Thursday which has progressively gotten worse with minor doses of prednisone prescribed for an assumed allergic reaction. She now describes being able to feel pressure inside her head when she moves her eyes because the swelling is so severe. I'd appreciate receiving any info or experience anyone has had with this condition; also any recommendations in terms of alternative treatments I can recommend to her. If there are any things she can do to minimize side effects of prednisone, I'd like to hear about that as well. My sister lives in Tempe, Arizona and works in Scottsdale. I'd also appreciate some local referrals for her. Thank you, Need a quick answer? Get one in minutes from people who know. Ask your question on Answers.
