Tea merchants? (slightly off topic..)

Strictly not, but a little, off topic - question about one of my

favorite Chinese herbs, tea. I hope nobody minds the side topic to

help cut through the heavy discussions lately. My favorite tea is Yun

Nan Hong Cha (Yunnan black tea) - the best I've found in the states is

the 2nd grade (I didn't like the 1st grade as much) from Ten Ren Tea.

I bought a half kilo of even better Yun Nan Hong Cha on a little back

street by the herb market in Guang Zhou last summer, but I drank it

already. If anyone has a good supplier in mind (yes, talking tea, not

contraband here!), please let me know (or contact me off list if not

to be discussed here).

Cheers,

Geoff

I bring tea (and ginseng) back from China several times per year.

Because I speak Mandarin, buy direct from the first tier of Chinese

wholesalers, and have very little in the way of company expenses and

infrastructure, the quality-to-price equation of the stuff that I

bring back is much better than basically anything I've seen elsewhere

in the West. But I am extremely small-scale at the moment, and it

goes very quickly after each trip. I don't have any left until my

next China trip in April, but contact me offlist if you are

interested: ericbrand AT gmail.com (no spaces).

very helpful,

You can try the merchants in your China town. Esp. right now in spring because

in Yunnan they get a new tea leaf twice a year - spring and late autum. Usually

the merchants got one somewhere in march-april, but ask them about afresh one
