Guest guest
Dear Group, I'm asking for insight into the compoment of migraines that are present on wakening. Is this due to stagnation which is worse during rest/sleep? I'm trying to fit this type of headache into the overall patterns of different patients. Thank you so much for comments. Guest guest
I think you can also think about impairment of the lungs descending function while the body is horizontal. From a biomechanical perspective the mechanism and pressure we create in our thorax when breathing is redistributed substantially when lying down. I haven't noticed any consistency in different breathing pattern types and headaches, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was one. Guest guest
Liver/ Gallbladder meridian weakness- generally GB or liver expressed thru the GB- liver is 1-3 am on the chinese clock- they start then and the person wakes up a few hours later with a migraine --- Jean <greypal wrote: > Dear Group, > > I'm asking for insight into the compoment of > migraines that are present on wakening. > > Is this due to stagnation which is > worse during rest/sleep? > > I'm trying to fit this type of headache > into the overall patterns of different patients. > > Thank you so much for comments. > Jean Dombroski, L.Ac. > > >
Guest guest
I don't think that you can generalize. I, too, have patients who present with many different patterns, usually complicated multiple patterns, who all have the common denominator of having migraines upon waking: some are Yin vacuitous with liver yang rising, some have liver qi stagnation, some have phlegm accumulation, some have food stagnation, some have wind-dampness, and some have had blood vacuity. I would think, that if you want to find a common denominator, it would be a deficiency of oxygen flowing to the brain. Guest guest
Don't rule out the obvious - does your patient have a bad pillow / bad sleeping position? Guest guest
Absolutely Geoff. Also don't rule out allergy to feathers, down or synthetic filler. For instance, we have a couch in our livingroom with synthetic filler. Whenever I nap on it, I wake up with a headache.
